Redwood City is a well-known and popular city on the San Francisco Peninsula in Northern California's San Francisco Bay Area, approximately just a mere 27 miles south of the city of San Francisco itself, and only 24 miles north of San Jose. Redwood City’s plentiful and involved history spans its earliest inhabitation by the Ohlone people to being a port for lumber and other goods too. Being that it is the county seat of San Mateo County, it is the home of several technology companies such as Oracle and Electronic Arts both. At the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, the city had a population of 76,815. The Port of Redwood City is the only deep-water port on San Francisco Bay south of San Francisco too, which makes the area a crucial shipping area as well.
Redwood City has earned some recognition for itself. Redwood City's slogan, emblazoned on the beautiful arches across Broadway at the east and west entrances to downtown, is "Climate Best By Government Test." This motto comes from a climatological survey conducted by the United States and German governments prior to World War I. In truth, the area centered on Redwood City tied for the world's best climate with the Canary Islands and North Africa's Mediterranean Coast as well, making this area highly desirable and almost famous in and of itself.
Drug Addiction and Substance Abuse on the Rise in Redwood City
Sadly, this is also a city that has seen a pretty steep rise in drug addiction and substance abuse. This is an unfortunate truth, but it is a truth nonetheless. All across the nation drug addiction and substance abuse is on the rise, but it has affected Redwood City more so than it has other places. Truly, the issue has become a pretty severe one and, if something is not done soon to rectify the situation for all involved in Redwood City, then it is feared that the addiction issue there will escalate to an actual epidemic. Right now the problem is at its worst with the youth population of the city, which is particularly concerning as youths are the most at risk when it comes to addiction and substance abuse in general.
Facts and Statistics on the Addiction Crisis
To better understand just how serious of an issue this really is, some facts and statistics have been listed below that shed light on the drug addiction crisis as it currently stands in the nation:
• In the year of 1998, 65% of the heroin seized in the United States originated in South America and another 17% came from Mexico alone. All in all, the vast majority of not only heroin but of all other illicit drugs too come from South America and from Mexico. Something must be done to quell this rising tide of drug trafficking before it gets much worse.
• Ketamine is a very popular drug for abuse in the United States, particularly amongst young adults. In August of 1999 it was officially discovered has a high likelihood of leading to psychological dependence and some likelihood of leading to physical dependence both. To back up this proclamation, since 1992 DEA has received more than 500 reports of the sale and/or use of the drug in schools by minors, on college campuses, at nightclubs and rave dances. The Drug Abuse Warning Network, (DAWN), recorded 207 Ketamine related hospital emergency room episodes between 1993 and 1998. While the drug is not usually life threatening, the drug is highly addictive and can often lead to abusing other drugs that are very life-threatening.
Rehabilitation: How to Beat Addiction in Redwood City
Thankfully, long term drug rehab is available, and luckily anyone who's addicted can finally have a chance at winning the battle once and for all. It was found recently that the United States is currently facing the worst drug and alcohol addiction epidemic that it has ever faced in the history of the nation. It was also found recently that more Americans are dying from addiction than ever before and are losing their lives from this. In truth, there are more types of drugs, the drugs themselves are stronger than they ever have been before, and people are abusing them younger and younger and younger every year. Sadly, the average first time ever abuse of a drug happens when an American is 16 years of age. In the 1990s it was 23 years of age.
This is where inpatient rehabilitation comes into play. It was found recently that the only way to effectively address drug and alcohol addiction was through a residential center. With inpatient rehabilitation, it is actually possible to beat drug and alcohol addiction once and for all. This was essentially a godsend to be American population. It was found that Americans were suffering so much from addiction that something absolutely had to be done about it and with a full and complete course through an inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment center, detox facility, rehab program, and recovery organization literally anyone can get off the path of addiction and onto the path of recovery. Addiction affects Americans on multiple levels, mainly a physical level, and a mental level. That is why inpatient utilization is necessary because only inpatient rehabs have the proper detoxification facilities and the counseling therapies and modalities necessary to address and resolve all aspects of addiction.
