A walk down Main Street also reveals many historical markers too, not just buildings. These markers signify spots of certain events or persons of importance during this period that have made an impact in the area. Placerville was also historically known for being on the line of the infamous Pony Express, a short-lived mail carrier service that connected California to the Midwest and the East Coast.
All in all, Placerville is a small town but a historically affluent and adapt town at that that has endless stories to tell visitors and new residents alike. Historically speaking actually, Placerville was often referred to by the name of “Hang Town," due to the frequent hangings that occurred in the lawless area during the 1800s. Those traveling in the area can still see the old Hangman's platform that was used for public hangings which has been restored and stands to this day as a reminder of the old laws of the West.
Drug Addiction Makes for Big Problems in Placerville
Sadly, though many feel as though it is entirely underserving, Placerville has indeed fallen under the effects of a pretty dismal and terrifying drug and alcohol addiction problem. Addiction problems are not new for California, but the last few years have been a lot worse than anything else that has struck in this area and made problems here. The fact of the matter is, drug and alcohol addiction is now a very real crisis in Placerville as well as in other small towns and cities all across the state of California.
Rampant increases in illegal narcotic trafficking across California coupled with increases in alcohol abuse and prescription drugs have been the crisis of the decade for California. Now more than ever this state needs solutions for fighting against drug and alcohol addiction and general substance abuse.
Utilizing Rehabilitation to Effect Change
Drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general has become a very serious and concerning issue in the city of Placerville. We don’t want to admit it, but we know it’s true. This peaceful town has been practically overrun with substance abuse problems and addiction issues. What next?
Even though this city does not have a very big population, that has not stopped drugs from filtering into the city from other bigger cities and metro areas. The truth has been that the addiction crisis here has only gotten worse and worse as the years have gone by with no real sign of it getting any better any time soon either.
What can be done when addiction problems are this strong and this prevalent in a city? What can be done indeed? The answer to this problem is to of course actually rehabilitate those in the city who are addicted to drugs and alcohol, and to work on prevention to try to stop the drugs from even coming into the small city and to stop alcohol abuse from even starting.
This is a challenge and it is something that the entire city will have to work on to really make sure it happens. It can be done though, and it must be done before things can get any better in this city.
This effort begins with those who have family members or loved ones in Placerville who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. Such individuals who have an addicted loved one need to step up to the plate and do whatever they need to do to get that loved one into rehab. That’s really the only way to go about it. If a city-wide effort occurs and a lot of work is done on this then it is actually possible that these issues and these struggles will cease to be so serious and worrisome. With proper rehabilitation of all who are addicted in Placerville these issues will finally come down and cease to be so concerning.
