Ione is an interesting town in California. For one thing, it has been formerly known as:
• Bed Bug
• Freeze Out
• Ione City
• Jone City
• Jone Valley
This is a city that finally settled on the name “Ione” in Amador County, in the state of California, in the United States of America. The population was 7,918 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, up from 7,129 during the previous 2000 census. Once known as “Bed-Bug” and “Freeze Out,” among other things, Ione was an important supply center on the main road to the Mother Lode and Southern Mines during the California Gold Rush in the 1800s.
Now, Ione is mostly a bedroom community, a commuter town, an outlying and support city, and a suburb to some of the somewhat nearby bigger cities. Ione is a relatively middle class city, with the median income for a household in the city ranking in at $40,625, and the median income for a family coming in at $48,911. Males had a median income of $26,922 versus about $23,633 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,340. About 9.3% of families and 11.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.8% of those under age 18 and 4.5% of those ages 65 or over. All in all this is a very pleasant and very middle class town and city.
Drug and Alcohol Addiction and Substance Abuse
Sadly, as has been the fate of so many other small town California cities and towns, Ione has also begun to fall under the effects of a pretty serious drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse crisis issue. This has been an ongoing problem for some time now with the crisis issues going on and on and on with no clear sign of a resolution or any kind of benefit coming to it any time soon.
The cruel fact of the matter is that drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse as a habit is expanding outwards from many different major California big cities and into the small towns, the outlying suburbs, and the small cities and the rural areas. How did this happen? Around the year 2008 when the economy crashed a lot of drug dealers began to lose business in bigger cities, so their method of address was to start spreading their reach outwards and into small towns and rural cities and suburbs and supporting bedroom communities. This is exactly what has occurred in Ione.
Addressing the Problem with Rehabilitation
The best way to tackle an issue like this is with rehabilitation. Preferably what needs to be utilized is inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations. These by far are the most successful approaches to addiction treatment.
The United States is seeing more and more Americans who are admitting themselves to treatment centers for drug and alcohol addiction in general. This is a good thing, but when one looks at the fact that only two out of every twelve Americans who are addicted to alcohol actually successfully find rehabilitation, the truth is quite miserable. For example, in the year 2006 almost a full two million Americans were admitted to drug and alcohol treatment facilities nationwide for addiction problems.
Crisis interventions for drug and alcohol abuse are now becoming more needed and necessary than ever before, especially in cities like Ione. Studies have shown in recent years that the current percentage of American drug and alcohol addicts who are NOT willing to seek out drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation numbers are as high as ninety percent. The concept that one can just, “deal with his or her addiction”, is more prevalent than ever before sadly, making the vast majority of the addicted populace feeling as though they do not need rehab, and that they don’t really have a problem to begin with either, all of which is crazy but definitely what is actually going on in the nation right now.
Substance abuse and addiction is a crisis that grows daily. The efforts of those who have started rehabilitation programs and who have pioneered good preventative campaigns must be applauded, but there is still a lot of work to quell the rising tide of drug and alcohol addiction in United States. In spite of all of these efforts, the issue still gets worse and worse every year, with more and more individuals falling prey to addiction and more and more individuals dying because of addiction.
This is a very real issue and a very pressing concern. Ione has never really had to deal with these issues before, so the city stands to lose so much more than other cities in this area that are used to it do. This is the unfortunate truth of the matter but it is very much the truth indeed. There is no doubt about it, drug and alcohol addiction has hit California as an entire state and it is here to stay unless individual cities and towns like Ione do their best to personally address their own addiction crisis issues. The key is inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations. That is the absolute key and what is needed now more than ever in this city and in this state too.
