Northern California Substance Abuse Facts

Drugs are a major problem in Northern California, where much of the national supply of marijuana and methamphetamine are produced. Drug trafficking rings are known to move drugs through the area in order to get them to Canada.

Methamphetamine is considered the greatest illegal drug threat in Northern California, but illegal marijuana grow operations proliferate there. Industrial-scale marijuana grow operations occur in the national forests of Northern California, where they pose a threat to the ecosystem, area residents, and hikers who run the risk of violence at the hands of growers.

Residents of Northern California are particularly vulnerable to substance abuse and addiction because the area is awash with drugs. Let’s take a look at some of the stats on drug trafficking in Northern California:

In 2011, authorities destroyed 460,000 marijuana plants in raids of the Mendocino National Forest. 101 people were arrested. Authorities also disposed of 23 tons of garbage, 22 miles of irrigation pipe, and 13 man-made dams.

In 2013, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s department discovered a cache of drugs and weapons on the 55-acre property of a longtime resident. 111 weapons, 20 of them stolen, were hidden in a cave on the man’s property. The cave also contained more than 100 pounds of marijuana.

In 2010, Northern California authorities seized 1,757 pounds of marijuana from drug traffickers. They also seized 196.9 pounds of cocaine, 5.28 pounds of crack cocaine, 51.99 pounds of powdered methamphetamine, and 1778.19 pounds of ice methamphetamine.

Authorities also seized 18 pounds of heroin from drug traffickers in Northern California in 2010.

Northern California Substance Abuse Assessment

Our substance abuse assessment is crucial to helping you or your loved one find the right rehab help. During the assessment, our referral specialist will ask you a series of questions. Your answers will let us know exactly what you require from a rehab facility.

The treatments and services offered at inpatient rehabs vary widely, so it’s important to know exactly what you’re looking for! That said, if you don’t have the answers to some of our questions, that’s OK. Just give us as much information as you can.
We’ll need to know:

  • How long the individual has been drinking or using drugs.
  • How often the individual drinks or uses drugs, and in what quantities.
  • If the individual has tried to quit in the past. We’ll need to know how many times the individual tried to quit and how successful he or she was each time.
  • Whether the individual is worried about being able to afford treatment. There are many treatment options available.
