Richmond is a well-known and practically infamous city in and the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in the United States. The city was an important village of the Powhatan Confederacy, and was briefly settled by English colonists from Jamestown in 1609, and in 1610–1611 as well. The present city of Richmond was initially founded officially in the year of 1737.
Richmond became the capital of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia in the year 1780. Richmond played key roles in both the Revolutionary War period and in the American Civil War as well. The city went on to enter the 20th century with one of the world's first successful electric streetcar systems. The city also acted as a national hub of African-American commerce and culture.

• There is currently a major heroin epidemic that has claimed more than 3 thousand lives in Virginia over the past 5 years alone.
