Norco is a lovely and pleasant city in Riverside County, in the state of California, in the United States of America. As of the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, the city population was 27,063, up from 24,157 at the 2000 census report.
As for its history, the city's unique name is actually an abbreviation of, "North Corona". It was named after the North Corona Land Company, which was a very prominent company at the time of the towns inception. Norco had its "grand opening" so to speak on Mother's Day, May 13, 1923. It was later incorporated as an official city on December 28, 1964.
Norco has a good economy, and the vast majority of adults there are employed full time. According to the City of Norco, the major area employers are the Corona-Norco Unified School District with a full 5,216 employees, California Rehabilitation Center with another 1,146 employees, and Naval Surface Warfare Center with an additional 1,010 employees.
Norco is perhaps known best for being a horse community. In this city there are few sidewalks in really any part of the city, and instead there are horse trails. Local riders can ride to town and tie their horses at the many hitching rails and corrals placed close to businesses and stores. Many horse-related associations are a big part of the city, including the Norco Horsemen's Association and the Norco Junior Horsemen's Association. Horses play a big part in the day to day life of this city. In fact, the original spirit of the town's incorporation was to promote "City living in a rural atmosphere".
Drug and Alcohol Abuse Makes an Appearance in Norco
Unfortunately, in spite of Norco’s insistence upon living a rural lifestyle, it has not been able to escape all of the aspects of the big city life. Drug and alcohol abuse is one thing generally associated with bigger cities that has managed to sneak into the town of Norco. For some time now drug dealers and pushers have been extending their efforts out from bigger cities and into smaller towns. For Norco, a lot of the Riverside drug criminals have been setting up shop in this small town and have been trying to corrupt the city’s youth.
Facts and Statistics on the Issue
To get a better idea of the rising drug problem that is not only occurring in Norco, but is also occurring all across the nation, some facts and statistics have been included below on it:
• Drug abuse and alcohol abuse trends are increasing with the most prominence and obvious characteristics amongst young adults and adolescents. This is truly saddening because it forebodes a new generation of drug addicts as the new adult population of the United States of America. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, (NIDA), and the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, (NSDUH), in the year of 2008 alone, there were just over nine percent of young adults from the age group of twelve to seventeen years old who were current, active, and regular illicit drug users and regular alcohol abusers.
• Crystal meth abuse is worst amongst the nation’s youth. It is also particularly bad in California and the Southwestern states. This is particularly troublesome as the youth is the future took right? For example, in the year of 2007 four and a half percent of American high-school seniors and four percent of tenth grade students reported using methamphetamine at least once in their lives, and very high percentages of those who admitted using meth once also admitted to being heavily addicted to meth of some type or another.
Rehabilitation: How Those Addicted in Norco will Finally be Able to Beat Addiction Once and for All
In recent years, drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general has become a far more serious problem all across the nation. For this country, drug abuse, drug addiction, alcohol abuse, and alcohol addiction all together are roughly two to three times more prevalent and more pervasive in the United States now than ever before. Since the turn of the century, the total number of Americans who are addicted to drugs and alcohol almost doubled, and the number of individuals who die every year because of drug and alcohol abuse has more than tripled in the last sixteen years alone.
It is true that, while addiction had indeed increased all across the nation, some places have struggled with substance abuse within their communities more than others. Norco is one such place. In Norco, though it is by no means a big city, substance abuse has become a big issue and has created big effects on the local population there-in. This has been a pretty big problem here, further exacerbated as it is by the small population and small-town feel of the city.
In Norco, the true solution to winning the battle that the city faces against addiction lies in all those who are afflicted and addicted seeking help at inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehabilitation programs, and recovery organizations.
Rehabilitation is the best choice for ridding Norco of addiction because rehabilitation centers and programs will actually fully handle Norco's drug problem. This won't be an easy effort but it will succeed if it is applied correctly. With rehab, anyone can beat addiction once and for all and with rehab Norco will finally know the sobriety and success that it once had.
