Los Altos Hills is a very, very wealthy incorporated town in Santa Clara County, in the state of California, in the United States of America. The population was 7,922 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau. It is one of the wealthiest towns in the San Francisco Bay Area and in the country for that matter.
Los Altos Hills is recognized nationwide for multiple different things, but the sheer wealth of this city is probably the biggest one that makes it well known. Two Los Altos Hills ZIP codes appeared on the 2015 Forbes list of America's most expensive ZIP codes, with 94022 ranked the 11th most expensive (with a median home price of $2,896,103) and 94024 ranked the 57th most expensive (with a median home price of $2,527,908).
Los Altos Hills is unique in another way. For one thing, it has a complete ban on commercial zones, which was upheld by the California Court of Appeal (First District) in the year of 1973. The town's only retail commercial operation is the book store on the campus of the Foothill College. The town does not have a post office or library even, with mail delivery provided from the nearby town of Los Altos.
There are a lot of rules and regulations for living in this city, which is typical for a wealthy town. For example, the town's zoning regulations require a minimum lot size of one acre (4,000 m²), setbacks from the property boundary, and easements for public pathways too. Landowners are limited to one primary dwelling per lot, which effectively bans multifamily housing; this ban and the minimum lot size were upheld as constitutional by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in the year of 1974.
As mentioned above, this is a very wealthy city. The median income for a household in the town was about $173,570, and the median income for a family ranked in at $181,865. Males had a median income of $200,000 versus about $178,288 for females. The per capita income for the town was about $92,840. A very low percentage of only 1.2% of families and 1.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.5% of those under age 18 and 2.0% of those of the age of 65 or over. In the year of 2007, Los Altos Hills was ranked by CNN Money as having the 3rd highest median household income in the entire country, earning it even more recognition and fame nationwide.
Drug and Alcohol Addiction in Los Altos Hills
Sadly, drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general has finally touched down in Los Altos Hills. As is the case with many other cities that are wealthy, the biggest problem currently is with the young adult population of the city. Sure enough, the unfortunate youth of Los Altos Hills have been targeted by drug dealers and criminals of the nearby bigger cities with more and more problems coming around the corner ever month. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that if this problem isn’t brought under control then the entire city will just suffer more and more as a result of it.
Necessitating Rehabilitation for Those Addicted
How does a city address a massive addiction problem? With rehabilitation of course. That is truly the only way to tackle such an issue, and only rehabilitation of an inpatient nature will do in almost all cases. The need for inpatient rehabilitation in Los Altos Hills has never been as great as it is now currently.
Becoming clean and sober from alcohol addiction is no easy task at all. When it comes to rehabilitation for alcohol addiction, not nearly enough individuals in the United States receive it, and in fact more Americans become addicted every year to alcohol addiction than become rehabilitated from their addictions to it. Only about one and a half million adults received some form of treatment for an alcohol addiction at a specialized facility in the year 2013, where as well over two million Americans became addicted to alcohol in 2013.
This is the big problem in Los Altos Hills. About fifteen percent of the young adult population of the city is currently addicted to drugs and alcohol, but perhaps one out of fifty of those individuals actually wants to get help and thinks it would be a good idea to stop using drugs and alcohol and give up the habit once and for all and for good.
Addiction is a crisis best dealt with at a rehab center. That is the most effective and easily the most beneficial system for tackling it permanently. With rehab, addiction can finally become a thing of the past in Los Altos Hills.
