Emeryville is a small but very pleasant and quite popular city located in northwest Alameda County, in the state of California, in the United States of America. It is located in a corridor between the cities of Berkeley and Oakland, extending to the shore of San Francisco Bay and beyond. Its proximity to San Francisco, the Bay Bridge, the University of California, Berkeley, and Silicon Valley has been a catalyst for recent economic growth and population growth in this quite pleasant suburban bedroom community to the nearby big cities.
Emeryville is a major economic player in the Bay Area too, though it is technically still just a suburb. The up and coming city is home to Pixar Animation Studios, Peet's Coffee & Tea, Jamba Juice, The Center for Investigative Reporting and Clif Bar. In addition to that, several well-known biotech and software companies have made their home in Emeryville too such as: Electronic Arts' Maxis Software division, LeapFrog, Sendmail, MobiTV, Novartis (formerly Chiron before April 2006), and BigFix (now IBM). The population was 10,080 as of the 2010 United States Census Bureau's report, although it swells considerably on weekdays due to the city's position as a regional employment center for many other communities nearby.
Emeryville has a lot to offer. It has a strong economy and many places to work, but the city itself has not yet become super urbanized. A lot of people in Emeryville commute to the bigger cities nearby, and at the same time many commute to Emeryville to work there. All in all, this is a hustling and bustling suburban town that has its plans and ideas set on a big and exciting future.
Drug Traffickers Set Their Sights on Emeryville
Sadly, drug traffickers and criminals in general have begun to really set their sights on Emeryville. This is a city and a town that is definitely up and coming, and for those reasons the city could definitely be the next major target for excessive drug trafficking and drug addiction problems. In fact, if the trends of addiction and general substance abuse in California are anything to go off of, the substance abuse problems that have already appeared in Emeryville are only just the beginning of the problem.
Substance abuse (in California at least) is now far more of a problem in mid-sized and small town cities than it is in bigger cities or urban areas. Emeryville has already been hit pretty hard by this and it’s likely that this is only the beginning of the problem unless something major and drastic is done about it. True enough, addiction and substance abuse has legitimately only begun to put its foot down in towns and cities like Emeryville. The crisis for California’s small cities will soon become an epidemic unless major preventive and rehabilitative measures are taken and taken fast too.
Substance abuse amongst the nation’s working class is at a new high, which is the exact crisis in Emeryville. Now, more than forty percent of the nation’s working class and middle class have admitted to abusing drugs and alcohol at least once in the past year, and fifteen percent would agree that they are indeed addicted to some substance of some kind. This is quite concerning as this is the demographic that drives the nation in many different ways. If something isn’t done soon for these individuals then the problem will of course only get much, much worse.
Necessitating Rehabilitation in Emeryville
Substance abuse is very real and very concerning. California is currently one of the worst states in the nation for marijuana abuse, meth abuse, prescription drug abuse, and alcohol abuse. Heroin is just now starting to make a big impact on this area too. The truth is, major action needs to be taken and it needs to be taken sooner rather than later to effectively stop this problem from getting any worse any faster than it already is.
Small towns, rural areas, farming communities, suburban areas, neighboring towns to big cities, bedroom communities, and small villages are currently the areas that are being affected the most by substance abuse and addiction problems. For them, they are being affected the most because addiction and substance abuse crisis issues are pretty new to these areas, and small towns in this state have never really dealt with these issues before and do not really know how to handle them properly.
The key for those who are addicted in Emeryville lies in getting all of the addicted residents into and through inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs in CA, and recovery organizations. These and only these programs can actually affect a real difference in any given area. The community of Emeryville really needs an approach like this or certainly the problems and the crisis issues will only get a lot worse.
Drug and alcohol addiction, once it sets in, is not something that just goes away. Unfortunately, it just does not work that way. Once addicted, it’s actually very difficult to beat the habit with any kind of permanency. That’s why now more than ever rehabilitation is key and is needed and wanted in Emeryville. If those in this area who are addicted are put through rehabilitation, then the demand for drugs in Emeryville will come racing down. If this is done, then drug dealers and traffickers will begin to leave this city alone and the city of Emeryville can instead focus on preventing the issue from ever coming up again.
