Carson is a well-known and popular city in Los Angeles County, in the state of California in the United States. As of the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, Carson had a total population of 91,714 residents all in all. Located just a mere thirteen miles south of downtown Los Angeles and approximately only 14 miles away from the Los Angeles International Airport, Carson is an ideal place to live for those who work in Los Angeles. Incorporated on February 20, 1968, Carson is the youngest municipality in the South Bay region of Metropolitan Los Angeles area too, and it is also one of the fastest growing areas as well.
Carson is best known for being the site of California State University, Dominguez Hills. This school is a major commuter school, particularly for students from the surrounding cities of Long Beach, Gardena, and Compton alike. It was originally founded as "South Bay College" and then renamed California State University at Palos Verdes too. In the wake of the 1965 Watts rebellion, it moved to the City of Carson to meet a significant need for higher education opportunities in the largely and predominant black south suburbs of Los Angeles. Today it is easily among the most racially diverse campuses in the United States. The student body does not have a racial or ethnic majority either. In 1965, Carson was chosen as the home for the relocating university over the communities of Friendship Park, Fort MacArthur and Torrance as well.
Drug Addiction and Substance Abuse on the Rise in Carson, California
Sadly, drug addiction and substance abuse has begun to spiral out of control in this largely college-based town. Drug addiction is growing in prevalence all across the nation, but the areas with greater concentrations of young adult populations are by far the ones that are the most seriously affected.
Alcohol addiction is also on its way up in Carson too, and a combination of this with drug abuse amongst Carson’s youth population has made for a gruesome cocktail of drug and alcohol abuse in this once relatively peaceful city. True enough, the issue is far worse than it ever was before, and it is only worsening. Drug and alcohol addiction has been getting steadily worse all across the nation, but it wasn’t until recently that it really began to spiral out of control. Now, California holds the top of the line in some of the worst drug and alcohol abuse statistics and areas, and Carson is just one of the cities that represents an epitome of this truth.
Carson’s problem is almost out of control, and if something isn’t done soon for the city then it will be on the verge of a full on addiction epidemic. In truth, the city represents an epitome of alcohol abuse and some drug abuse issues as well.
While the following information does not pertain exactly to Carson, it does shed light on the true difficulties of alcohol abuse and drug abuse as an increasingly serious issue amongst the youth of the nation:
• Among current underage regular and consistent drinkers, a full 28.7 percent paid for the alcohol the last time they drank, including 7.8 percent who purchased the alcohol themselves and 20.5 percent who gave money to someone else to purchase it for them. Among those who did not pay for the alcohol they last drank, 36.6 percent got it from an unrelated person aged 21 or older; 24.5 percent got it from a parent, guardian, or other adult family member; and 16.4 percent got it from another person younger than 21 years old. Essentially, alcohol abuse amongst America’s youth is very much a team effort, drawing question to the ethics and morality of Americans in general as to their strict attitude towards youth alcohol abuse.
• In truth most, (83.5 percent to be exact), of the alarming 4.6 million past year alcohol abuse initiates in 2013 were younger than the age of 21 at the time of their devastating initiation. In fact, underage drinking is a serious problem that only gets worse and worse every single year on an exponential level.
