Racine Drug Rehabilitation

Racine is a well-known and bustling city in and the county seat of Racine County, Wisconsin, in the United States.  The city of Racine is located on the shore of Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Root River.  Racine is centrally located between Milwaukee and Chicago, and it acts as a bedroom community for many individuals who work in those two cities.  As of the 2013 U.S. Census Bureau’s census, the city had a population of 78,199, making it the fifth-largest city in the state of Wisconsin.  Its median home price of $103,625 makes it the most affordable city in the entire state of Wisconsin to buy a home.  The city is very desirable to many individuals all across the state of Wisconsin because of the employment options in nearby cities and because of the very affordable housing that is not as easy to find in Milwaukee and Chicago.

Racine is not just a bedroom community, and in fact the city has earned much recognition on its own.  Racine has long been a center of innovation and entrepreneurship with factory production of J. I. Case (heavy equipment), S. C. Johnson & Son (cleaning and chemical products), Dremel Corporation, Reliance Controls Corporation, Twin Disc, and Arthur B. Modine (Heat Exchangers).  It is home to various immigrant communities as well.

Racine was home to wagon maker Mitchell & Lewis Company in the 19th century, which, at the start of the 20th century, began making motorcycles and automobiles as Mitchell-Lewis Motor Company.  Racine was also home to the inventor of the InSinkErator, the first garbage disposal. Architects of the city included A. Arthur Guilbert and Edmund Bailey Funston.  Malted milk balls were also developed in Racine.

Drug Addiction and Substance Abuse Making an Appearance in Racine

Like with many of the other cities in Wisconsin and all across Midwest of the United States, drug addiction and substance abuse has hit very, very hard in Racine.  Ever since the end of the economic crisis of 2008, Racine was one of the first cities to start doing really well even considering the localized recessions that were still occurring all around it.  Because of this, it was natural for the city of Racine to then attract drug dealers and traffickers who could not find enough business in Milwaukee and in Chicago.

Since 2008, Racine has seen increases in drug abuse and addiction, particularly, with heroin and opiate drugs, but also with alcohol as well.  The city must do something soon, or the entire area will be faced with a full on addiction epidemic.

Facts and Statistics Highlighting the Issue in the Area

Wisconsin as a state has some of the worst addiction issues in the entire country.  For example, the state is the worst in the entire nation for alcohol abuse, and the state is fast tracking towards being the worst for pill abuse as well.  To better understand the situation so as to offer up preventive methods and solutions to the drug addiction crisis, local governments worked with the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, (NSDUH), to try and determine the exact extent and severity of drug addiction in the state.  Listed below are just a few of the findings of these various research and survey projects:

• In the year 2011, the Drug Task Force of Brown County seized 9.03 grams of meth. In the first five months of this year though, agents seized 730.54 grams.

• There has been a rise in meth abuse and addiction in Wisconsin that started in 2010.  That year, agents busted one meth lab in a four-county region.  Just four years later, there were 20 meth labs busted in that same four country region, half of all the meth labs busted in the entire state.

• In the year 2013, opioid drug overdoses accounted for nearly half of the 843 drug overdoses that occurred state-wide across Wisconsin.

• Since at least 2000, rates of alcohol abuse and dependence have been higher in Wisconsin
than in the United States as a whole.  Also, Wisconsin also has consistently higher arrest rates than the nation overall for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and more than three times the national rate of arrests for other liquor law violations.

• In the year 2006 through 2009, where-in the most recent data is available, Wisconsin also had the highest rate in the nation of self-reported drinking and driving.

• In the state of Wisconsin in the year 2014, the rate of drug addiction overdose deaths was nearly double that of 2004. The most prevalent category of drug mentioned on death certificates for drug related deaths in 2012 was “other opioids”, meaning that heroin and prescription drug abuse is making a serious comeback in this state.

Drug Addiction Rehabilitation: Rehab Sought as the Solution to Addiction in Racine

Without a doubt, the addiction crisis that Racine faces is a serious one to say the least.  It is predicted that the issue will get a lot worse before it gets better if nothing is done to curb the crisis in any way at all.

However, there does exist one way to fully and completely stop addiction it its tracks, and that is through a course in an inpatient, residential drug and alcohol addiction treatment center and program.  Only at such a program can individual truly get all of the help across all the areas that he or she will need it to get fully clean, sober, and recovered.  A lifetime of sobriety is certainly achievable in Racine, but each individual addict must be willing to do what it takes to kick addiction once and for all by going to an inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction treatment and recovery center, detox facility, and program.
