Kenosha Drug Rehabilitation
Kenosha is a well-known and popular city in and also the county seat of Kenosha County in the U.S. State of Wisconsin. Kenosha lies very conveniently and aesthetically on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan. With an estimated population of 99,889 as of July 1, 2013 arrived at by the estimate done by the United States Census Bureau, it is the fourth-largest city in Wisconsin and the fourth-largest city on Lake Michigan as well. The city is part of the U.S. Census Bureau’s Chicago-Naperville-Joliet, IL-IN-WI Metropolitan Statistical Area, and it is a major economic supporter of the overall area.
Kenosha is perhaps one of the most desirable cities in the entire state of Wisconsin. Kenosha, decades ago a bustling hub of manufacturing and industry alike, is today a bedroom community due to its veritable ease of access to the Chicago-Milwaukee corridor. Now, many of Kenosha’s residents are middle class to upper class and they live and work in other areas. According to county statistics, forty-nine percent of Kenosha’s workforce commutes outside of Kenosha County to their various positions. Many travel northward towards Milwaukee or south into the Chicago area, but either way the vast majority of these areas that they commute to yield at the very least middle class if not upper class jobs and careers.
Because of where so many of Kenosha’s residents are employed, the city’s poverty rate is much lower than the overall state average, while its median household income exceeds the state average by far. Coincidentally, a June 2009 study by the Milken Institute reported that Kenosha placed in the national top-50 high-tech economies.
Drug Addiction and Substance Abuse Making a Strong Appearance in Kenosha
Unfortunately, wherever economic success and prosperity go, so does follow drug trafficking, drug abuse, drug addiction, substance abuse, drug crime, gang activity, accidents, deaths, injuries, thefts, and death. This has sadly been an issue in Kenosha of the last several years.
All across Wisconsin, drug abuse and addiction has been becoming more and more of an issue for the state’s residents, and Kenosha has felt the effects of this quite immensely. Many drug dealers and traffickers set their eyes on Kenosha right away as the city has much to offer the prospective drug dealer. Heroin, cocaine, crack, and opiate pills in particular have become quite popular here, and if something is not done soon then the problem will only get much, much worse.
Facts and Statistics on the Issue: What is Really Happening in the Area
Before the local and national government could begin to work out exactly how it was going to combat and effectively stop this serious issue in its tracks, the key aspects of the problem in Kenosha, in the surrounding areas, and in the state as a whole had to be figured out first. To do so, multiple surveys and research projects were conducted on the various geographical areas to learn the exact extent of drug addiction and substance abuse in these areas. Listed below are just some of the findings of these studies:
• Heroin is making a big comeback in Wisconsin. Waukesha County for example recorded 13 fatal heroin overdoses in 2012, compared with five in 2011 and two in 2010.
• Drug overdoses are now the highest cause of injury-related deaths in Wisconsin. Now however, drug overdoses are also killing more people than diseases like breast cancer according to the Department of Health Services Division of Public Health.
• The Department of Health Services reviews and analyzes cause of death data for the State of Wisconsin, and the most recent report from this institution said that car crashes used to be the leading cause of injury-related deaths in Wisconsin. Drug poisoning, however, surpassed car accidents as the leading cause in 2008.
• Opioid pain relievers contribute to forty-five percent of overdose deaths in Wisconsin, with heroin being the second highest overdose drug in the entire state.
• When it comes to drinking, Wisconsin leads the pack by far, and the problem here with alcohol abuse has only gotten worse. According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Wisconsin is first in the nation for binge drinking, underage drinking and women of childbearing age who drink.
