• The rate of drug-induced deaths in Vermont is below the national average, but the rate of drug abuse in general is miles above the national average.
• Opiates, including prescription drugs, are the most commonly cited drugs among primary drug treatment admissions in Vermont. This is horrifying, because opiate drugs cause more damage and permanent addictions than any other drug in the U.S.
• During the four-year period from 2010 to 2014, there were an alarming 188 deaths in Vermont from prescription painkillers, according to figures compiled by the state itself.
