Westlake Village is a planned community that is quite pleasant and that straddles the Los Angeles and Ventura county line, providing bedroom communities and a suburban life for both people in Los Angeles and in Ventura alike. The eastern portion of the city is the incorporated city of Westlake Village itself, conveniently located on the western edge of Los Angeles County, California. The city itself, located in the beautiful region known as the Conejo Valley, encompasses half of the area surrounding Westlake Lake, and small neighborhoods primarily south of U.S. Route 101 and east of La Venta Drive as well. The population was estimated to be at 8,473 in 2014, up from 8,368 at the 2000 census and all as reported by the United States Census Bureau itself. The headquarters of the Dole Food Company is also located in Westlake Village too, which makes for a strong economic presence there.

The western portion of Westlake Village is just a community but what a community it is!  The community within the city limits of Thousand Oaks, in Ventura County, California. The properties and businesses in this portion can be addressed as “Westlake Village”, by locals and visitors alike. Built as it is across the county line as a planned development, residents recognize that the community of Westlake Village is not limited to the incorporated city in Los Angeles County, but encompassing the entire area surrounding the man-made lake and making for an idyllic and truly peaceful place to live in the middle of the big city and the major metro area too.

Substance Abuse Rears its Ugly Head in Westlake Village

Sadly, just as has been the case all across the state, it would appear that there is no city that is safe from drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general in California.  Certainly, it would appear that the small towns and the suburban, bedroom communities, and simply rural towns and communities are all one and the same the ones that are being hit the hardest thanks to the ever expanding spread of drug and alcohol abuse and addiction all across the nation. If nothing is done about this problem soon then it surely will only get much, much worse long before it gets any better.

The Cruel Statistics

California small towns are not the only cities that are struggling and suffering thanks to substance abuse and addiction.  There are many others too.  Drug and alcohol abuse is a major problem to say the least and it has been for some time now in and around the city of Westlake Village, but all of California and the entire nation for that matter have been bit hard.  For example, alcohol abuse, something that is huge in Westlake Village, is also a big deal all across the nation:

• In the year of 2010, alcohol misuse problems cost the United States $249.0 billion.  Sadly, three-quarters of the total cost of alcohol misuse is related to binge drinking.  A lot of the cost is because of drunk driving.  Much of it is from accidents and collateral damage and damages to families who are affected by the alcoholic.

• According to the 2014 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) no less than thirty-five percent of 15-year-olds report that they have had at least one drink in their lives.  Furthermore, about nine million people of the age of 12–20, (22.8 percent of this age group) reported drinking alcohol in the past month alone (23 percent of males and 22.5 percent of females).  Obviously, underage drinking is quite prevalent indeed.

• The prevalence of binge drinking is quite great today.  According to the 2014 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) approximately 5.3 million people (about 13.8 percent of that age group) of the ages of 12–20 were binge drinkers (15.8 percent of males and 12.4 percent of females).

• According to the 2014 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) approximately 1.3 million people (about 3.4 percent of this age group) of the age of 12–20 were heavy drinkers (4.6 percent of them males and 2.7 percent of them females).

• In the year of 2014, no less than sixty percent of full-time college students of the age of 18–22 drank alcohol in the past month compared with fifty percent of other persons of the same age.  Obviously, college students are far more at risk for abusing alcohol than non-college students are.

The Necessity for Rehabilitation

Now more than ever cities and towns like Westlake Village really do need rehabilitation and they need it badly too.  This is a city that has suffered time and time again thanks to drug and alcohol abuse and addiction problems.  Now more than ever it needs to stop and it is going to stop with getting all who are addicted in the area into and through inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations. That is needed and wanted like never before.  With proper rehab of the very best kind, the issue can finally be a thing of the past in Westlake Village.

Rehabilitation helps out in more ways than one.  In fact, it helps out in a lot of ways.  The truth of the matter is that addiction rehabilitation is just something that utilizes counseling and therapy and detox tools and techniques to give a person the chance to get away from drug and alcohol addiction for good.  That is the simplicity of the process and it is key that it is instituted in Westlake Village now before it is too late.  With rehab, the whole city can finally be free from addiction problems.
