Tiburon is a pleasant and well known and well off incorporated town in Marin County, in the state of California, in the United States of America. This beautiful city is located on the Tiburon Peninsula, which reaches far south into the San Francisco Bay itself. Tiburon is bordered by another pleasant and successful city, Corte Madera to the north, and also by Mill Valley to the west. Tiburon is also well known for being right on the water of the San Francisco Bay, something that has made the city quite popular in tourism. As for its population, the total, complete number for Tiburon was 8,962 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau.
As for its history, the city of Tiburon’s name derives from the Spanish word tiburón, which means literally “shark”. The name was first given to the peninsula on which the city is situated, and probably inspired by the prevalence of locally native leopard sharks in the surrounding waters that are quite common and often seen. Tiburon was formerly the southern terminus of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad too, another point of history that the city is famous for. This railroad is known for having transported freight for transfer to barges for shipping to cities around San Francisco Bay and beyond. It is now a commuter and tourist town alike, linked by fast ferry services to San Francisco and with a concentration of restaurants and clothes shops that are all quite pleasant and appealing.
For tourism interest (the main source of revenue now for the town) Tiburon features numerous small boutiques and restaurants, catering both to local residents and to tourists alike, but regardless generating a lot of revenue for the city one way or the other. Most of the town’s restaurants are located on or near Main Street or around the downtown area. To draw even more recognition to the city, in 2004, Tiburon became the first city in the world to eliminate trans-fats from all of its restaurants.
All in all, Tiburon is a perfect example of a wealthy, affluent, and pleasant small town, upper class tourist city. The city has grown impressively and accrued much fame and wealth for itself in recent years thanks to economic successes and growths of the tourism industry and general popularity for the city.
Drug and Alcohol Abuse
Sadly, like as is the case with many California towns, Tiburon has fallen under the influence of a pretty extensive and involved drug and alcohol abuse problem that has made for negative consequences left and right in the city. Substance abuse problems are growing all across the state of California in fact, with more and more small towns and rural cities and bedroom communities and suburbs being gruesomely affected by these issues and problems. Now more than ever, the city needs to desperately come up with a solution as so many of the young adults and grown adults alike of the city are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.
California is a hot spot for addiction right now. For example:
• The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has officially declared that prescription drug abuse in California is a full on epidemic. Truth be told, this is actually the very first drug to ever earn the title of an epidemic in the history of the state, ever. That is quite seriously how bad the abuse problem is with prescription drugs right now, and it’s not just happening on the west coast either.
• In the year of 2013, only about sixteen percent of Americans believed that the United States was making progress in its efforts to reduce prescription drug abuse in any real way at all. In truth, significantly more Americans (about 37 percent of them all in all) agreed that the country is losing ground on the problem of prescription drug abuse and in a big way too. Even more feel like the problem is just getting worse in California. That figure is among the most pessimistic measures for any of the seven public health issues included in the survey too, as usually people have been pretty positive about these kinds of things in previous years at least.
• Heroin use and abuse rose by no less than 75 percent in California between 2007 and 2011, with a saddening 80 percent increase in first-time use among 12 to 17-year-olds since 2002, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA). Between 2011 and 2015 it doubled again in this one state alone!
Now more than ever, drug and alcohol abuse and addiction must be dealt with. This problem and these issues are only getting worse and worse as the years go by with there being no clear sign of them dropping off or relaxing any time soon. This is why now more than ever these cities and these towns, especially in Tiburon, need effective rehabilitation to address the issues and problems. Inpatient rehab is the number one most successful method of addressing addiction and it has been for decades. With inpatient rehab, the problems of Tiburon can finally fall by the wayside and the city can know peace and comfort once again.
