About the City of South San Francisco

South San Francisco is a lovely little city in San Mateo County, in the state of California, in the United States, located on the San Francisco Peninsula in the San Francisco Bay Area.  The population was 63,632 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau.

South San Francisco lies north of San Bruno and San Francisco International Airport in a small, lovely, and aesthetic valley south of Daly City, Colma, Brisbane, and San Bruno Mountain, east of Pacifica and the hills of the Coast Range, and west of the waters of San Francisco Bay.  Locals there often refer to the town as “South City,” in much the same way that San Francisco is called “The City.”  Despite its name, South San Francisco does not actually even border San Francisco, with Brisbane being between them.

Most of the valley there actually faces San Francisco Bay, affording bay views from higher levels.  South San Francisco has mild winters and dry cool summers making it very pleasant there.  The hills to the west shield the city from much of the fog that prevails in neighboring areas nearby

Because of how lovely this city is, the population has tripled since World War II with the opening of such subdivisions as Buri Buri, Winston Manor and West borough on the slopes west of El Camino; it grew from 4,411 in 1920 to 67,009 in 2014.  Undoubtedly, this is a popular city.

Drug Abuse and Addiction on the Rise

Sadly, wherever a population increase goes so will follow an increase in substance abuse and addiction and this is exactly what has happened in South San Francisco.  This is an area that never really used to struggle with drug and alcohol addiction but now it most definitely is struggling and it is struggling a lot.  If something isn’t done soon then the issue will only get much, much, much, much worse for them.

To better understand the crisis, some facts and statistics have been included on out below:

This of course cannot be tolerated as, unfortunately, the demographic that is the most affected by this issue currently is the young adults of the area. This is dealt with with so much more severity because young adults are typically far more adversely affected by drug and alcohol addiction than full grown adults are. Indeed, young adults and teens always have a much higher likelihood of dying from substance abuse, and of committing serious crimes while under the influence than older adults do. Because of these reasons and others, it is of the upmost importance to address and handle addiction and South San Francisco as soon as is possible.
