Sierra Madre is a town like many other bedroom communities and commuter towns in the greater LA area. This is a city in Los Angeles County, whose population was 10,917 at the 2010 U.S. Census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, up from 10,580 at the time of the 2000 census report. The city is growing slowly, which is typical for LA suburbs.
Sierra Madre is known for being built in a very beautiful area. This city is located in the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley below the southern edge of the absolutely stunning Angeles National Forest. Pasadena and Altadena are to the west of the city, with Arcadia to its south and east. Sierra Madre is known as “Wisteria City”, and its city seal is decorated with a drawing of the now widely known 500-foot vine that still to this day rests in the city. Sierra Madre is also called the “Village of the Foothills” and was an All-America City in the year of 2007.
Sierra Madre is an ideal, California middle class town. The median income for a household in the town came in at about $65,900, and the median income for a family was $79,588. Males had a median income of $61,635 versus a much smaller figure of $42,527 for females. Pleasantly, only about 1.9% of families and 3.7% of the population were below the poverty line. The city is a successful one to say the least.
Substance Abuse has an Effect in Sierra Madre
Sadly, drug abuse and addiction has spread outwards into Sierra Madre, just like it has done in almost all other LA suburbs, outlying cities, and commuter towns. Drug and alcohol abuse both are pretty stable in the big, urban, metro cities in California, but they really are becoming a legitimately huge problem in the smaller cities and towns. Sierra Madre is just one of them.
Ever since the economic recession in 2008, drug dealers and traffickers have really pushed their trade outwards from major cities and into middle class America and suburban wonderlands. This has been the exact problem in the LA area. Suburban cities and towns like Sierra Madre didn’t know what hit them, and they’re still trying to play catch up. In times like these, the struggle is a real one, and something will have to be done soon to try to curb the issue.
Perhaps the most concerning aspect with drug and alcohol addiction today has been with the increase in substance abuse amongst general, working-class Americans. In recent years the middle class has begun to get targeted for drug dealing and drug pushing in general a lot more than they ever were, and the result has been a strong percentage of this nation’s working, middle-class being addicted to drugs and alcohol. The middle class drives the life force of the nation, so having a heavy percentage of them addicted to drugs and alcohol is quite concerning for the future of the nation as well as for their own lives personally.
Rehabilitation is the Key
Substance abuse is a problem faced by many. It is a serious issue and it has been so for some time. There’s no doubt about it, drug and alcohol addiction is here, and if nothing is done about it then it is here to stay too. For Sierra Madre, this is bad news. Sierra Madre is a town that has already seen terrible things when it to comes to drug and alcohol addiction, and if they had their way the residents of the city would just close their eyes and it would all go away.
A lot of confusion has come on the scene lately as many are asking just how is it possible for a small, peaceful California town like Sierra Madre to get so heavily trapped by drug and alcohol addiction. It is quite simple really. Prior to the turn of the century there was little to no drug and alcohol addiction problems in Sierra Madre or in any other California small town for that matter. In fact, any drug problems of any merit were in the bigger cities alone. Now however, fast forward almost two decades and the drug problem has expanded to completely swamp the big cities. Now, the problem is moving into the small towns too, small towns like Sierra Madre.
Bad news indeed. Thankfully something can be done about it. Indeed, with inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations, substance abuse and addiction in general can be gotten rid of and it can be gotten rid of for good. This is the key to beating addiction. Inpatient rehab is the best tool that any urban area or even a small town has against an addiction problem. Truly now more than ever this is what needs to be focused on if positive gains are going to be made in Sierra Madre.
