Santa Paula is a pleasant city in Ventura County, in the state of California, in the United States. Situated amidst the orchards of the fertile Santa Clara River Valley, the city advertises itself to tourists as the infamous “Citrus Capital of the World.”  Santa Paula was one of the early centers of California’s petroleum industry too though. The Union Oil Company Building, (initially the founding headquarters of the Union Oil Company of California in 1890), now houses the California Oil Museum itself.  The population of the city of Santa Paula was 29,321 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, up from 28,598 at the previous 2000 census.

Santa Paula’s economy is now primarily agriculturally based, originally focusing on the growing of oranges and lemons. Santa Paula’s Mediterranean climate combined with an estimated 20 feet of topsoil have made it a prime location for growing citrus and the locals have taken advantage of this situation. Avocado has also become a major crop and an avocado was added to the city’s official seal.  Agriculture is a big deal here, but it is not the only source of income that the city has.

The Santa Clara Valley also represents one of the best preserved examples of a mature Southern California landscape of citrus groves that mean one thing; tourism.  Tourists find themselves in a town with a main street reminiscent of Middle America in an agricultural setting preserved through Ventura County’s greenbelt agreements.  The California Oil Museum, within the historic Union Oil building, is located downtown, and the Santa Paula Art Museum and Museum of Ventura County Agriculture Museum are just up the street. The Santa Paula Mural Project has completed numerous murals depicting the city’s history too, and all of this has made the city of Santa Paula one of California’s biggest tourist destinations.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Strikes Hard in a Once Sober City

Sadly, there has been a prolific spread of drugs and alcohol into and around the city of Santa Paula.  This is a city that didn’t really struggle with drugs and alcohol prior to the turn of the century, but now that the city has an economy that is flourishing and prospering the drug problem here has also increased.  More and more drug dealers and traffickers have set up shop in this city and the effects of this have been unpleasant to say the least.  If something is not done soon to rectify this issue then it will certainly only get much, much worse indeed.

Rehabilitation: Santa Paula’s Plan for Beating its Addiction Problem Once and for All

There’s no doubt about it, drug and alcohol abuse has hit hard in the nation, and it has affected all different geographic areas differently.  Some get really badly harmed from this, others scrape away with little trouble.  Without a doubt though, Santa Paula has been hit hard and has been affected badly.  In fact, this whole area of the state has suffered pretty immensely at the hands of drug and alcohol addiction and from substance abuse in general.  It would be an understatement to say that the local residents are sorely upset about this.

Much of the drug problem in Santa Paula has shown itself in the sheer numbers of crimes that are now being committed here, surprising as the size of the city is not vast.  Per capita, this small town now has one of the highest crime rates in the city and these are mostly drug related. Drug-related violence, drug-related theft, drug-related accidents, drug-related sexual assault, drug-related injuries, drug-related car crashes, drug-related collateral damage, drug-related disputes, drug-related breaking and entering, and much more has been the lot of life in and around Santa Paula.  There’s no doubt about, substance abuse has really touched down in Santa Paula and it would appear that it’s here to say.

This does not have to be a permanent condition though, and in fact it really shouldn’t be.  There does exist a way to beat addiction once and for all, and that way exists in the form of all those who are addicted going through an inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment center, detox facility, rehab program, and recovery organization.  With the help of programs like these, it actually becomes quite plausible and quite do-able for anyone who is addicted to anything really tackle addiction once and for all.

It’s not going to be easy to win this conquest against addiction.  It never is.  Santa Paula has it rough but with hard work and perseverance the city can come through it.  This is highly necessary, as the future looks grim unless the city really does make a major turnaround.
