About the City of San Rafael, California

San Rafael is a very well-known and quite popular city in and the county seat of Marin County, in the state of California, in the United States of America.  The city is located in the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area and it has been attracting more and more visitors and more residents too every year since the turn of the century.  As of the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, the city’s population was 57,713.

San Rafael has really made a name for itself in multiple different areas and across multiple different fronts.  For example, after the arrival of George Lucas to San Rafael in 1970 to film the movie THX 1138, the city became a center for the entertainment industry and has been so ever since, particularly with the high-tech elements of the business.  Lucasfilm was founded by George Lucas in 1971 while in San Rafael, and is best known for the global hit movie series Star Wars and also for Indiana Jones.  While experiencing a few slumps here and there, San Rafael has done nothing but flourish and prosper ever since.

Drug and Alcohol Addiction and Substance Abuse on the Rise in San Rafael

Sadly, drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general has been on the rise for some time now in and around the city of San Rafael.  The attraction of the film industry there and other such interests have drawn more and more people to the area, but this has also at the same time drawn more and more drug abuse and substance abuse in general to the area too.  If something is not done soon to rectify this, then it is feared that the issue will only get worse and worse as the years go by.

Facts and Statistics: What is Really Occurring in the Nation with Drug Abuse

To better understand the addiction crisis as it stands now, some facts and statistics have been included below that showcase it quite well:

•    Alcohol abuse across the planet sadly claims millions of lives every single year.  For example, the year 2012 saw an unfortunate and alarming three and a half million deaths, (almost six percent of all accounted deaths in the world actually), that occurred solely as a result of alcohol abuse.

•    Crystal meth abuse has brought on a serious spike in overdose rates in the United States lately.  Between the years of 1995 and 2002 for example, emergency rooms in rural and urban areas alike throughout the country reported a sudden fifty percent increase in meth related visits that occurred over these years alone.

•    Prescription drug abuse is unfortunately creating more and more emergency room visits every single year.  Over a full million emergency room visits involved the non-medical and overall very addictive use of prescription medication in the year of 2011.

Rehabilitation Sought as a Solution for a Nationwide Addiction Epidemic

It is a sad truth but a real one that drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general has become such a serious issue in recent years in San Rafael. For some time now, substance abuse has been growing more and more common in this area, and it is at a point now where the issue has transcended past that of a general problem, past a crisis, and it has now arrived at a legitimate epidemic. For San Rafael, there are multiple different factors that have contributed to this.

The area’s relatively close proximity to Mexico, coupled with intensive and increasing prescription drug abuse among the city’s youth, coupled with exorbitant amounts of alcohol consumption within the city limits, and all added to by more and more relaxed attitudes about marijuana abuse have all equated out into a terrifying substance abuse crisis here. This is a true issue though, and it has been made very clear to the residents of San Rafael that if something is not done soon, then the issue will get worse and worse and worse to a point where it essentially goes so far as taking over the city. It is times like these that the residents of San Rafael have been reaching out for a potential solution to the growing crisis.

This is where inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence, treatment centers, detox facilities, rehabilitation programs, and recovery organizations come into play. These programs by far are the most effective when it comes to beating addiction once and for all. With the help of an inpatient rehabilitation program, anyone who is addicted to anything in San Rafael can finally have access to the tools that they need for beating addiction once and for all.
