San Francisco Drug Rehabilitation

San Francisco is officially known as the “City and County of San Francisco”.  It is the cultural, commercial, tourism, and financial center of Northern California.  San Francisco beautifully encompasses a land area of about forty-five square miles on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, which makes it the smallest county in the state by land area.  The city has a density of about 18,187 people per square mile, making it the most densely settled large city in the state of California.  San Francisco is the fourth-most populous city in all of California, after Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose, and the 13th-most populous city in the entire United States with a United States Census Bureau’s 2014 estimation of a population of 852,469.  The city and its surrounding areas are known as the San Francisco Bay Area, and tens of thousands of visitors flock to this area for a multitude of different reasons and aspects.

As for its history, the city of San Francisco was founded on June 29, 1776, when colonists from Spain established Presidio of San Francisco at the Golden Gate and Mission San Francisco de Asís named for St. Francis of Assisi just a few miles away.  Later, the California Gold Rush of 1849 brought rapid growth to the city, quickly making it the largest city on the West Coast at that time.  After three-quarters of the city was tragically destroyed by the 1906 earthquake and fire, San Francisco was quickly rebuilt, hosting the Panama-Pacific International Exposition only a mere nine years later.  Today San Francisco is the center of liberal activism in the United States. Politically, the city votes strongly along liberal Democratic Party lines.

San Francisco is a very, very popular tourist destination, arguably the most popular tourist destination in all of California.  Known as it is for its cool summers, fog, steep rolling hills, eclectic mix of architecture, and landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, the former Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, and its Chinatown district, the city is affluent thanks in a large part to the tourism industry.  In other economic developments, San Francisco is also the headquarters of five major banking institutions and various other companies such as Levi Strauss & Co., Gap Inc., Salesforce.com, Dropbox, Reddit, Square, Inc., Airbnb, Weebly, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Yelp, Pinterest, Twitter, Uber, Mozilla, Wikimedia Foundation, and Craigslist.

Drug Addiction and Substance Abuse Hitting Hard in San Francisco

This is a city that has always had its own, localized struggles with drug addiction and substance abuse.  The city is the gay capital of the nation, and has one of the most extensive and involved night club, rave, and party scenes in the world.  This has always resulted in a rather serious and ongoing ecstasy, molly, MDMA, and hallucinogen problem for the city.  Now however, that is all beginning to change for the worse as far more serious, more deadly, and way more addictive drugs are beginning to find popularity and support.

Drugs like heroin and cocaine smuggled into the city from Mexico as well as addictive, prescription drugs stolen and obtain illicitly have become very prevalent and common in the city of San Francisco.  If something is not done soon about this problem, it is anticipated that the drug crisis in this once fair city will only continue to grow and develop.

Facts and Statistics Highlighting California’s Current Drug and Alcohol Addiction Problem

Multiple research projects have been performed on the San Francisco area to try and discover the exact extent and magnitude of the drug abuse and addiction problem that has suddenly cropped up here.  The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, (SAMHSA), along with other organizations, has worked to uncover the exact drug problem in this city.  Listed below are just a few of their findings to provide the reader with context as to the exact severity of this issue here:

• There were two key findings for San Francisco for this reporting period starting with the unfortunate but continuing dominance of methamphetamine in various indicators, (with increases in the number of primary methamphetamine treatment admissions and in the proportion of methamphetamine reports among drug items seized and analyzed by National Forensic Laboratory Information System [NFLIS] laboratories).

• The second big issue in San Francisco is the continuing decline in cocaine indicators (including decreases in the number of primary treatment admissions and in the proportion of cocaine reports among drug items analyzed in NFLIS laboratories in the first half of 2013), but the resulting vast and massive increases in heroin and prescription drug abuse in the area.

• The San Francisco metropolitan area has a higher percentage of people who are regular drug users than any other major metropolitan area in the USA.

• Nearly thirteen percent of San Francisco residents reported using some type of illicit drug, such as marijuana, cocaine or heroin, in the previous month.

Rehabilitation: A Way Out for Addicted San Francisco Residents

Rehabilitation centers are now being sought out as the single most effective way of fighting against, and winning against, drug addiction and substance abuse in any individual.  For San Francisco residents, inpatient rehab centers are truly the best and most effective way and method of kicking their drug habits once and for all.

With an inpatient rehab center to help one combat a drug addiction, detoxification can be applied in the first stages of the program to effectively and completely eradicate physical dependence to drug and alcohol substances.  After detox is completed, addicted San Francisco residents move immediately into the actual rehabilitation part of the program in which they can experience all of the counseling and therapy needed to eradicate the mental and psychological aspects of drug addiction and substance abuse.
