Substance Abuse Impacts San Anselmo
Drug addiction and substance abuse in general has made a significant impact on San Anselmo in recent years. These issues and these concerns have been serious ones to say the least, and they have been quite concerning as well. San Anselmo, prior to the turn of the century, did not have a significant addiction problem like it does today. The issue has gotten bad now, especially amongst the young adult and working class populations of the city. If fast action isn’t taken soon, the crisis in San Anselmo will soon become a major and concerning problem.
The Real Data of the American Drug Problem
San Anselmo is not the only place that is suffering right now with substance abuse. There is a rising trend all across the nation when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction. For example:
• There were absolutely no statistically significant differences in the rates of current illicit drug use between 2012 and 2013 for any of the racial/ethnic groups. Between 2002 and 2013, the rate of current illicit drug use increased from 8.5 to 9.5 percent for whites. Among blacks, the rate increased from 8.7 percent in 2003 and 2004 to 10.5 percent in 2013. There may have been a time when different ethnics were more affected or less affected by addiction than others were, but now addiction is so very prevalent than it ever used to be before that all ethnics are being affected relatively equally, and this problem is especially significant in California.
• Marijuana use and abuse is quite prevalent in the nation today and is the number one gateway drug in California. In the year of 2013 for example, 5.7 million persons aged 12 or older used marijuana on a daily or almost daily basis in the past 12 months, (i.e., on 300 or more days in that period), which was an increase from the 3.1 million daily or almost daily users in the year of 2006. The number of daily or almost daily users of marijuana in the year of 2013 represented 17.4 percent of past year users altogether. Marijuana is the drug that causes millions to go on to other more dangerous and deadly drugs.
Rehabilitation Called for in San Anselmo
San Anselmo can find success and recovery in the form of inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations. It is becoming clearer that it is rehab that is the ultimate solution for a drug problem.
Inpatient rehab centers have the tools and the techniques necessary to assist people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. Detoxification is available to people who are chemically dependent when they go to rehab centers. Many different kinds of counseling methods and techniques are also included in a standard rehab program as well. For those addicted in San Anselmo, a combination of both detoxification and rehabilitation is a required approach because those addicted in San Anselmo are both chemically and mentally dependent upon drugs and alcohol.
Substance abuse is a crisis to say the least, and once one becomes addicted, it becomes next to impossible to beat the habit. More than ever this is necessary and needed though that those who are addicted do beat their addiction habits. This is what it will take before San Anselmo can find a level of sobriety and recovery that it once knew before.
Addiction is insidious because it can be so hard to recognize. People who suffer from chemical dependency often don’t understand the full extent of their problem. Loved ones of people who suffer from addiction might not realize how bad the problem is either a... Read More...
