Ripon is a pleasant and quiet city located in San Joaquin County, in the state of California, in the United States of America. The population was 14,297 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau.  Ripon, on the site previously known as Murphy’s Farry, Stanislaus City, & Stanislaus Station, was renamed for Ripon, Wisconsin, which was itself named for an ancient and historic city in North Yorkshire, England. Ripon’s economy is currently largely agriculture based, and this city is known especially for its high almond production.  In fact, though Ripon is not a big city, it is responsible for a very high percentage of this nation’s overall almond production.

The median income for a household in the city of Ripon was $56,979, and the median income for a family there was $62,592. Males had a median income of $47,377 versus about $25,389 for females. The per capita income for the city ranked in at $20,978. About 4.7% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the poverty line too, including 6.2% of those under age 18 and 11.5% of those of the age of 65 or over.  Ripon is not a wealthy city, but almost everyone there have a decent paying, middle class job.

Ripon is also known for having an above average educational system.  Students are served by five K–8 elementary schools, (self-contained at all grade levels too), and one high school by Ripon Unified School District, located in the Central Valley. All schools have API scores above 700. Three of the elementary schools have API scores above 800 too.

Substance Abuse Takes its Toll

Sadly, drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general have really begun to take their toll in Ripon.  This is a city that time and time again has increased again and again and again as the years have gone by with little to no sign of it getting any better any time soon either.  This city like many other small towns in the area and all across California or that matter has felt the very negative effects of drug and alcohol addiction in recent years.

This has meant trouble and difficulties for Ripon.  Ripon is a city that stands to gain a lot of great things in the future with its stable work force and decent job presence.  However, with all of the difficulties and all of the other troubles and problems that have been occurring here, it is unlikely that the city will do that well if nothing is done about the drug and alcohol addiction problem here.  Ripon in particular has suffered a lot not only from alcohol and marijuana, but also from prescription drugs, meth, and heroin.  All in all, the substance abuse problem in this area is quite extensive and all-inclusive.

Beating the Habit in Ripon

There’s no doubt about it, addiction has made its way into Ripon and it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere any time soon.  This is a dangerous and a concerning issue to say the least, but it can be resolved and it needs to be resolved soon too.

But how does one tell if a friend, a family member, or a loved one truly has an addiction problem or not?  Truly, this is a difficult issue to discern at best, especially when one is taking alcohol or prescription pills, both of which are legal and often suggested or recommended.  To aide in this discovery, some hints and clues of addiction have been listed below:

• An addict will have problems at school or work — frequently missing school or work, a sudden disinterest in school activities or work, or a drop in grades or work performance
• Physical health issues are a problem — lack of energy and motivation
• Neglected appearance comes up — lack of interest in clothing, grooming or looks
• Changes in behavior is common — exaggerated efforts to bar family members from entering his or her room or being secretive about where he or she goes with friends; or drastic changes in behavior and in relationships with family and friends
• Spending money happens a lot— sudden requests for money without a reasonable explanation; or your discovery that money is missing or has been stolen or that items have disappeared from your home, indicating maybe they’re being sold to support drug use

If you notice these traits, it might be time to consider helping this person get into rehab.  Ripon is a dangerous place to be right now, especially if one has a drug or alcohol addiction issue.  All the more reason to get out of the area and into a rehab center or program.  In this way, one will be able to pull out of the environment and just focus on his or her own addiction crisis for a few weeks or months.  Inpatient rehab is the only sure-fire way to beat addiction, and it is needed now more so than ever before in Ripon.
