Rialto, California: The City in Review, in Summary, and Highlighted
Rialto is a well-known city in San Bernardino County, California, in the United States. The population was 99,171 with the 2010 Census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, and was estimated to have reached 100,000 at the 2014 estimate.
Rialto is home to four major regional distribution centers, earning the city recognition as being a major industry and commerce town with a little bit of a tourism flare. Staples Inc., which serves stores across the entire West Coast of the United States has its distribution center there. Toys “R” Us, Under Armour, and Target all have West Coast distribution centers there as well. These four businesses alone account for much of Rialto’s employment, giving the city a strong, centralized economy. One of the United States’ largest fireworks companies, called Pyro Spectaculars, is also headquartered in Rialto too and also has its own distribution center.
Though Rialto is not a major tourism center like many other similar-sized Californian cities are, the city does have some things for which it is known. For example, the city has some of the nicest scenery in that part of California which inspired multiple films to be filmed there. True enough, the movie Transformers, 2007 Fox television show Drive, the movie The Hangover, the movie Due Date, and several commercials by UPS and car companies have been shot there. The television show Fear Factor used a portion of the then uncompleted highway 210 in Rialto for a stunt too.
Rialto is an ideal place to live for the middle class family. It does not have a huge amount of visitors and hustle and bustle of the bigger cities, but the scenery, the climate, and the geography there are all spectacular. For example, the city is actually also known as, “Bridge City”, as it features a somewhat cooler version of a Mediterranean climate which may be characterized as a Continental Mediterranean climate, which is known for wet, cool to chilly winters with hot, dry summers, ideal for living in and visiting alike.
Drug Addiction and Substance Abuse Hits Hard in Rialto, California
Sadly, this prosperous city attracted the eye of many drug dealers and traffickers following the economic recession of 2008 which left many drug groups in bigger cities without anyone who could afford their drugs any more. Indeed, somewhat prosperous cities like Rialto are exactly the types of cities that have been targeted the most for drug dealing and trading for all those who are afflicted with addiction in the United States.
Heroin and meth have come up into Rialto from Mexico, and prescription drugs have also permeated the city as a result of substance abuse in other areas with desires for newer and fancier drugs. Sadly, if something isn’t done soon to correct the trend that this city seems to be following, then it is feared that the city will actually face a full on addiction epidemic.
