About the City of Redlands, California
Redlands is a nice little city in San Bernardino County, in the state of California, in the United States. As of the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, the city had a population of 68,747, which was actually up quite a bit from 63,591 at the 2000 census. The population was estimated at 69,999 in 2013. The city is located approximately 10 miles east of downtown San Bernardino.
This is a pleasant and quaint California town. The town is booming though, and that has probably been the major cause of the increase in drug addiction and substance abuse there. This is a city that has never struggled with drug addiction and substance abuse prior to the turn of the century and in fact, if it weren’t for the population increase, probably would have escaped notice for far longer than that.
Facts and Statistics on the Addiction Crisis
Listed below are some facts and statistics that should shed some light on the drug addiction crisis and issue that should increase the reader’s understanding on not only the issue in Redlands but it should also shed some light on the issue in the rest of the nation too.
• Regionally, the overall highest number ever of prescription drug abuse cases has occurred in Arkansas, Kentucky, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Another very alarming set of statistics and facts comes from the accessibility of prescriptions for those who are interested in them. Truthfully, more than half of non-medical prescription drug users reported that they were able to obtain medication from a friend or relative for free, while 11.4% purchased the medication from friends or relatives. Furthermore, 4.8% admitted to stealing or taking medication from friends or relatives without consent. Finally, 2.3% reported to obtain drugs from strangers and/or drug dealers, which means the majority of prescription drug abusers are within close proximity and accessibility to prescription medication. This poses a huge threat to the nation as it is totally different from the traditional, “drug dealer and drug buyer” set up.
• Prescription drug abuse has become a force to be reckoned with, and there is no doubt in anyone’s mind about this. The truth is, its effects rival that of other illegal drug use. In fact, its effects are worse. For example, in the year of 2008, prescription drugs were involved in more than half of the reported overdose deaths in the entire United States. And in addition to rising death tolls, prescription drug abuse is influencing the healthcare system too, insurance companies, and laws both current and future for the nation. Factually, prescription drug abuse could very well be the number one most concerning American health issue in the near future if it isn’t already.
Rehabilitation Sought as a Solution to Addiction
Drug and alcohol addiction is sadly a battle that is truthfully being fought by many of the residents of Redlands. This inconvenient truth came sweeping in on the coattails of the economic crisis of 2008. That is about when Redlands really started to suffer with an addiction crisis, when trafficked drugs started coming into the area more intensively, when individuals started abusing alcohol in that area more frequently, and when people started dying and getting injured from drug and alcohol abuse more regularly.
All in all, the situation in Redlands has gone from normal to worse in a very short amount of years. It is feared that, if something is not done soon to rectify the situation, it will only get much worse and Redlands will suddenly become one of the substance abuse capitals of United States. Thankfully, there does exist a way in which those addicted and Redlands can’t find freedom and sobriety for the rest of their lives. The way to do this is for all who are addicted in Redlands to take a course through an inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment center, detox facility, rehabilitation program, and recovery organization.
There are many different ways of approaching an addiction crisis, not only in one individual but also in any geographic area too, but the most successful one by far is the route that includes inpatient rehabilitation. When one has become addicted to drugs and alcohol one has added on a whole new aspect to his personality that the sensually take him over in more ways than one.
This addiction to an individual is very extensive, it is very intricate, and above all, it is very, very difficult to get rid of. This is why the “quick fix”, approaches to rehabilitation, i.e. outpatient rehabilitation, group therapy, group meetings, outpatient counseling, intensive outpatient, replacement drug therapy, maintenance programs, and others typically speaking do not work or do not work for very long. It’s not that those types of programs are of poor quality; it’s simply that they are not able to get down to the bottom of an addiction and address every single aspect of it. This is where inpatient, residential treatment truly comes into play.
At an inpatient drug rehab center one will be exposed to a wide plethora of rehabilitative techniques and methods that include many different routes and ways to beat addiction such as professional, residential, medical and holistic detoxification options, cognitive behavioral therapy, moral recognition therapy, group counseling and support, electives, relapse prevention, coping strategies, and aftercare preparedness. With a combination of these tools, winning the battle against addiction in Redlands actually becomes a realistic prospect. Nevertheless, beating addiction has never been easy and it never will be. However if those addicted in Redlands do the right thing and go through inpatient rehabilitation, then not only the individual addict but the area in general will be much better off for it.
