Pleasant Hill is a lovely and rather popular city in Contra Costa County, in the state of California, in the United States, in the East Bay of the infamous San Francisco Bay Area. The population was 33,152 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau. It was incorporated in the year of 1961. Pleasant Hill is the home of College Park High School, Diablo Valley College, John F Kennedy University, the Pleasant Hill Library and administration offices for the Contra Costa County Library system, and the Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District.
Pleasant Hill is known for its high standards of educational attainment. This is a city that has excelled time and time again and in big ways too. No doubt the most noticeable thing about the college is its strong educational backbone, but the city also has a powerful economy and a strong basis in tourism, real estate, and industry too. The city has flourished and prospered into and through the 21st century, and Pleasant Hill has become one of the, “places to be”, in California.
About the Drug Problem in Pleasant Hill and Across the Nation
There is no doubt about it, Pleasant Hill has made a very strong and very significant impact on the local area of the San Francisco Bay area, but the city has also had a big part to play in the development of the entire economic area too. This is a city that has flourished and prospered decade after decade and it is now at a new peak. Unfortunately, that is probably what attracted so many different trouble zones and areas when it comes to substance abuse and addiction.
This city has recently begun to suffer a lot when it comes to addiction almost as a result of its strong economy. A drug group or cartel sees a city with a good economy and they see a good opportunity to sell drugs in that city. This is exactly what happened in Pleasant Hill. It’s only been since the economic recession of 2008 that drugs really spread into this area and began to make big problems, because it was only then that drug dealers, traffickers, and pushers in bigger cities began to pull their attention away from an economically stricken populace and began to focus on other, outlying cities.
Pleasant Hill is not the only city that has been so affected. Substance abuse has been making a problem all across the nation for some time now. For example:
• A very critical problem when it comes to substance abuse is the simple fact that the vast majority of drugs and alcohol that people are using in the nation today create chemical dependence. Roughly 90% do this. This is why it is more important now than ever that all of those who are addicted go through inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detoxification facilities, rehabilitation programs, and recovery organizations.
• Addiction is beginning to affect Americans at younger and younger ages. In the 1990s, if an American was going to abuse drugs, his or her first age of abuse would be roughly about 22 or 23 years of age. Now, it is closer to 15 or 16 years of age. This has warranted a lot of concern because drug abuse at younger ages can create permanent brain damage and inhibit normal growth development. This is why it is so important to educate kids about the negative consequences of drug and alcohol abuse.
• For some time now a lot of concern and worry has been exerted on the simple manifestation that more and more pregnant mothers have been abusing drugs and alcohol every year. This is particularly upsetting because when a pregnant mother abuses drugs and alcohol, she’s not just ruining her life; she is also ruining the unborn child’s life. Tens of thousands of babies are born in the United States every year addicted to drugs or alcohol, and once this happens it is very difficult to remedy.
