Pismo Beach is a pleasant and unique city in San Luis Obispo County, in the Central Coast area of the state of California, in the United States of America. The estimate population was 7,931 at 2014, up from 7,655 at the prior 2010 census. This city is known for being a part of the Five Cities Area, a cluster of cities in that geographic area of San Luis Obispo County.
Pismo Beach is an interesting city. Their motto is that they are the “Clam Capital of the World”. The motto and the recognition of the city as being a clam place actually came from the long, wide beach where so many clams were once found. Once these clams were so abundant that they were harvested with plows on the beach. Clamming once drew thousands of clammers to the beach during low tides and is still legal too in fact; however, due to over-harvesting by humans and the protected sea otter (which tends to feast on clams), few clams are to be found any more.
Pismo Beach still hold true to its clam-related history. For example, at the southern end of Price Street upon first entering Pismo Beach, a gigantic concrete clam statue greets its visitors. The oldest Surf Shop on the Central Coast (known as the Pismo Beach Surf Shop) is seen from the Pismo Clam too. An eight-inch shell of the Pismo clam (Tivela stultorum) is on display at the Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce even, showing that the city is dedicated to its motto.
Pismo Beach is a pretty well off city, economically. The median income for a household in the city ranked in at about $46,396, and the median income for a family was $61,036. Males had a median income of a pleasant $48,606 versus only about $30,189 for females. The per capita income made for the city was roughly $30,835. About 6.3% of families and 9.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.5% of those under age 18 and 4.8% of those ages 65 or over too.
Drug Addiction and Rehabilitation in Pismo Beach
For the first time ever, Pismo Beach has begun to struggle pretty heavily with drug and alcohol addiction problems and general substance abuse crisis issues. This is a crisis here in this small city, and a major problem to say the least, and it has been so for some time now too. The problems and the issues that arise from these occurrences just seem to worsen and seem to rise to greater and greater heights as the years go by with no real hint or indication of them getting any better any time soon either. One way or the other, even though Pismo Beach is a small town, it would look as though addiction is here in Pismo Beach, and it is here to stay unless something major is done about it and done soon too.
Drug and alcohol abuse was never a major problem in Pismo Beach until recently. Now it is a big deal, and it is a big deal because so many dealers and drug traffickers have extended their influence out from the big cities and major metro areas and into small towns and outlying suburbs and rural areas like Pismo Beach. This is a crisis to say the least and it has been for years now. Something needs to be done about it before it gets any worse too.
The answer to handling the drug problem in Pismo Beach is to handle it with inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations. These programs more so than all others are the most effective of them all because these programs tend to really offer the most involved and the most effective solutions to addiction.
Inpatient rehab is the key to resolving addiction in Pismo Beach because inpatient rehab offers detoxification for chemical dependence and rehabilitation for the mental and the psychological aspects of addiction. All in all, these are by far the most needed and most desired approaches to beating addiction once and for all and for good. With inpatient rehab, Pismo Beach can finally go back to being free from addiction and to being free from all of the disastrous aspects that go along with drug and alcohol abuse and addiction that it once knew before things got really bad here.
Some of the rehab approaches that could be attempted in Pismo Beach would be things like:
Therapeutic communities are highly structured programs in which patients remain at a residence, typically for 6 to 12 months. In this model, the entire community, including treatment staff and those in recovery, acts as key agents of change, influencing the patient’s attitudes, understanding, and behaviors associated with drug use.
Shorter-term residential treatment is good too, which typically focuses on detoxification as well as providing initial intensive counseling and preparation for treatment in a community-based setting.
Recovery housing is also beneficial, which provides supervised, short-term housing for patients, often following other types of inpatient or residential treatment. Recovery housing can even go so far as to help people make the transition to an independent life. In fact, this approach can help them learn how to manage finances or seek employment, as well as connecting them to support services in the community.
Addiction is insidious because it can be so hard to recognize. People who suffer from chemical dependency often don’t understand the full extent of their problem. Loved ones of people who suffer from addiction might not realize how bad the problem is either a... Read More...
