Menlo Park is a lovely, middle-sized, suburban middle class city at the eastern edge of San Mateo County, in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, in the United States of America.  It is bordered by San Francisco Bay on the north and east; East Palo Alto, Palo Alto, and Stanford to the south; Atherton, North Fair Oaks, and Redwood City to the west.  Menlo Park is known to this day for being one of the most educated cities in the state of California and in the entire United States for that matter, with nearly 70% of its residents having earned a degree of some kind or another.  Menlo Park had 32,026 inhabitants according to the United States Census Bureau as reported in the year of 2010.

Without a doubt, Menlo Park stands out above the rest when it comes to educational attainment and success.  This is a city that has for some time now really had a strong concentration on just how important it is for the residents of the city to be educated.  As a result, a lot of college grads have been able to call Menlo Park their home.  The vast majority of the young adult population of this city is currently enrolled in college pursuing anything from Bachelor degrees to Master degrees.  This is a city that has worked hard to maintain its reputation from day one.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse and Addiction Sadly on the Rise in Menlo Park

Substance abuse and addiction amongst the college student population of the nation is without a doubt one demographic that stands out amongst all the rest.  This demographic has been hit hard time and time again and probably will continue to be so unless something is done soon to prevent it.  College students are a lot more susceptible to abuse drugs and alcohol than younger or older individuals are, and this accounts for a big population of Menlo Park.  These individuals must be rehabilitated if the city hopes to make positive change.

Facts and Statistics on the Matter

Sadly, addiction and substance abuse has not just struck down hard in one or two cities like Menlo Park.  Others too have felt the brunt of this.  For example, the entire American West and the American Midwest has been the effect of major increases in drug and alcohol abuse and addiction.  For some info on it, some facts and statistics have been included on it below:

• A common crisis and perhaps the most feared aspect of substance abuse is the simple occurrence of an overdose and resulting death due to drug and alcohol use. This happens to tens of thousands of Americans every single year and it is perhaps the most devastating aspect of drug and alcohol addiction. Not only does the individual himself or herself lose his or her life, but the lives of all who were connected to him or her are also devastated as a result of it.

• One of the greatest pains felt from nationwide substance abuse is the effect that it has on the country’s economy. A lot of people don’t know it but between alcohol abuse and drug abuse the nation has to deal with no less than $420 billion that is spent. This comes in the form of rehab centers, emergency department visits, ambulance rides, collateral damage repair, insurance costs, theft, crime prevention, trafficking prevention, etc.

Rehabilitation Sought as a Solution in Menlo Park

Menlo Park has recently fallen into the clutches of a pretty intensive and severe drug and alcohol addiction problem. Substance abuse has been growing in popularity and severity all across the country for more than a decade now but some cities have felt the effects of this more so than others. Menlo Park and some of the surrounding cities nearby are good examples of cities that, despite their medium and small size and stature, have definitely been hit hard with addiction.

Many wonder as to why Menlo Park, a relatively small size city would accrue such an intense drug problem. The truth of the matter is that drug dealers and traffickers pushers are far more likely to target smaller, middle class and upper class towns as they believe there is more money to be made in these areas. The inner cities of United States are safer than they ever were before but now it is the middle and upper class suburbia that has to be worried about.

With the basic concept of why Menlo Park and cities like it have fallen prey to substance abuse one can now move on and try to find a solution to it. Solutions to drug and alcohol addiction come in the form of inpatient rehabilitation. Different individuals experience addiction in different ways so the type of centre can very person-to-person but the common denominator is that anyone who is addicted to drugs and alcohol will need an inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment center, detox facility, rehabilitation program, and recovery organization.

These are the programs that will ultimately do the most good for the entire addicted populace of Menlo Park and for the entire addicted populace of the United States in general. This is why, now more than ever rehabilitation needs to be something that is insisted upon rather than just suggested. Now is the time for those addicted in Menlo Park to finally shed the shackles of addiction and find recovery through rehabilitation.
