Marysville is a city that also acts as the county seat of Yuba County, in the state of California, in the United States of America. As of the 2010 United States Census Bureau’s declaration for the city, the population was 12,072 all in all, reflecting an actual decrease of 196 from the 12,268 counted in the 2000 Census. Marysville, because of its close proximity to Yuba City, is included in the Yuba City Metropolitan Statistical Area, often referred to as the Yuba-Sutter Area after the two counties, Yuba and Sutter. The metropolitan statistical area is part of the Greater Sacramento area and Marysville is a short commute to the capital city.
The median income for a household in the city of Marysville was $28,494, and the median income for a family was $33,474 all in all. Males had a median income of $27,630 versus about $20,240 for females. This is a city that is known for being lower middle class and for being a bedroom community for working class Americans who have jobs in Yuba City and in Sacramento. The per capita income for the city was $15,315. About 15.2% of families and 18.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 26.9% of those under age 18 and 7.4% of those ages 65 or over. Unfortunately, this area of the state has seen some hard times thanks to the economic recession in 2008 and has not been able to come out of it as well as other sectors of the state.
Substance Abuse Issues Make an Impact in Marysville
A real crisis has struck Marysville, and it has appeared in the form of drug and alcohol abuse, addiction, and dependence. Marysville never really suffered with major drug problems before, but since the recession and since the economy in Marysville took a turn for the worse this city really has felt the negative effects of it. Marysville needs and wants a better approach to addressing the drug problem here, but really nothing has been done about this issue and no signs have been given that anything will be done about it any time soon either. This has been sadly the lot of life for most who live in and around Marysville, and those who are not now addicted to drugs and alcohol still in some way have their lives negatively impacted by someone who is addicted, like in the form of a family member or loved one.
Facts and Statistics
California as a state has experienced a surge in addiction crisis issues. In fact, the whole nation has. For example:
• In the year of 2013, 8.1 million persons aged 12 or older used marijuana on 20 or more days in the past month, which was an increase from the 5.1 million daily or almost daily past month users in 2005 to 2007. The number of daily or almost daily users in 2013 represented 41.1 percent of past month marijuana users. Obviously, marijuana abuse on a daily basis is a pretty common thing in the U.S., and it is growing more prevalent each and every year. This is worrisome because marijuana, aside from all of the adverse health and addiction-related effects of the drug, is also the number one gateway drug in the nation. Marijuana is quite popular in California right now.
• The sad truth of the matter when it comes to addiction is that the vast majority of people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol do not get the help that they need for whatever addiction it is. Although most people don’t get the treatment they need, there were over three-million people in 2011 who received treatment for their addiction crisis and trouble. One can learn more about their treatment options whenever they want, and anyone can seek out and go to treatment if they want, but unfortunately many do not do so. California has a huge drug problem, but there are solutions to addiction.
Rehabilitation Needed and Wanted
Now more than ever, Marysville desperately needs a solution for their devastating drug and alcohol addiction problem. All of California has been struggling with these issues and the addiction crisis couldn’t be more real.
