Manhattan Beach.  This is a city that has gone down in history time and time again for public desirability, educational attainment, and economic affluence.  Manhattan Beach is known nationwide for being a small coastal city located in southwestern Los Angeles County, in the state of California, in the United States of America.

Manhattan Beach is the, “city on the Pacific coast”, and it rests comfortably south of El Segundo, and north of almost equally infamous Hermosa Beach.  Manhattan Beach is one of the three Beach Cities that make up the well-known South Bay in the LA area.  Many come to Manhattan Beach every year for its ideal setting and comfortable, small town feel.

Known for its ideal weather and world-class beaches too, Manhattan Beach has become a highly desirable city to call home for all who live there and for those who visit there too.  The homes in Manhattan Beach cost upwards of 1 million dollars though, so living there is quite exclusive. Manhattan Beach is now known for its excellent school system, including its one public high school, Mira Costa High School, which was recently ranked high up in the top 1% f high schools nation-wide.  All in all, this city is very desirable and very pleasant.  Many call it home, and those who do not visit there as much as they can.

Manhattan Beach and Drug Abuse: A Cruel Mix

Sadly, recent years have seen an influx of illicitly obtained prescription drugs, illegal street drugs like heroin, and alcohol into and throughout the city of Manhattan Beach.  This bodes poorly for the city, especially since the city has had little experience with substance abuse in the past and has not really known what to do about the issues that are occurring here now.

The biggest problem with substance here has been with the upper-middle class and upper class adults of this city.  This demographic drives the powerful economy of the city, but now with so many of them falling prey to substance abuse the city’s economy is sure to be adversely affected by this.

Addiction Statistics: The Real Data on this Nation’s Drug Problem

Sure enough, addiction is no new thing to just cities like Manhattan Beach.  Since the turn of the century addiction has really started to adversely affect almost all urban areas all across the nation.  Listed below are a few statistics on the matter that should give the reader some context on the issue:

• Substance abuse is a lot more accepted and a lot more prevalent in society nowadays.  The whole attitude that the nation’s residents carry towards addition has changed rather drastically.  This is a sad truth but it is a truth nevertheless.  Studies now show that Americans no longer consider drug abuse as a terrible, taboo thing, but more as something that is standardly accepted and anticipated in American society.  It is still not, “good”, or, “okay”, but many have stopped trying to resist it.

• According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s, (SAMHSA’s) National Survey on Drug use and Health, (NSDUH), There are roughly 23.5 million people 12 years of age and older who needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol abuse problem in the year of 2009.  Of these individuals, only a mere and miserly 2.6 million, (about 11.2 percent of them), received treatment at a specialty facility for such a purpose.

Rehabilitation: How Those Who are Addicted in Manhattan Beach and All Across the Nation are Beating Addiction

Addiction is not an easy problem to deal with and it never has been.  For some time now the issue has grown more and more worse not only in Manhattan Beach but all across California and all across the nation for that matter.  It’s actually feared that if major action is not taken soon to address it then the problem will certainly grow worse and worse and worse and eventually take over to a greater or lesser degree in certain areas.  This is obviously very worrisome.

There does exist a way to win the battle against addiction once and for all though, and this lies in those who are addicted going into and through a full and complete inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment center, detox facility, rehab program, and recovery organization.  At such a center, anyone can beat addiction once and for all.  This is exactly what Manhattan Beach needs, and with tools like this it is very likely that they will succeed.

Now more than ever is the time for those addicted in Manhattan Beach to rise up and take their lives back.  They key to beating addiction does lie in a path through rehabilitation, and thankfully there are thousands of rehab centers all across the nation that can help those who are addicted there go free from the shackles of substance abuse.  It is in this way that the city will grow, flourish, and prosper, so these efforts must be supported.
