Live Oak is a very pleasant and well known and recognized little city.  This is a city that is known for its small town charm, great recreation programs and a very excellent quality of life too.  All in all this is a perfect of example of a very lovely, small, quaint, and quiet California town.

This is a city with some history that it is quite proud of too.  Named as it is for a beautiful grove of live oak trees, the City was first settled in the year of 1866 and incorporated later on in the year of 1947. The town grew with the advent of the California-Oregon Railroad in the 1870’s and was the second city to be established in Sutter County along State Route 99 East in fact. Today, Live Oak is a growing community with approximately 8,514 residents located approximately 50 miles north of Sacramento too.  Live Oak acts as a bedroom community and a rural suburban town to Sacramento.  Live Oak offers affordable housing with a very lovely small town atmosphere, perfect for raising young families as well as a great opportunity for new business ventures too.

Live Oak is middle class across the boards.  The median income for a household in the city came across at about $25,754, and the median income for a family was $31,075. Males had a median income of $22,901 versus only a slightly lower $20,852 for females. The per capita income for the city was at about $9,571. About 26.0% of families and 30.2% of the population were below the poverty line too, including 40.4% of those under age 18 and 7.9% of those ages 65 or over.

Drug Abuse and Addiction in Live Oak

Drug and alcohol addiction sadly are both spreading quickly and with voracity across the United States, with California being one of the hardest hit of all geographic areas.  More particularly, the small towns and middle class suburbs and bedroom communities in California have been the ones that have honestly been suffering the most.  The truth of the matter is, if nothing is done or if the problem is only partially addressed then California will have a full on drug and alcohol addiction epidemic on their hands if they don’t already.

Facts About the Problem

Drug and alcohol abuse and addiction is serious enough of an issue now that governmental organizations have started to really study it.  Some prevalent facts and statistics have been included below:

• Alcohol is a big problem in Live Oak and across the state.  Among all cirrhosis deaths in the year of 2011 in California, about 48.0 percent were alcohol related. The proportion of alcohol-related cirrhosis was highest than it had ever been before (72.7 percent to be exact) among decedents ages 25–34, followed by decedents aged 35–44, all the way up at 70.3 percent.  Furthermore, in 2009, alcohol-related liver disease was the primary cause of almost no less than 1 in 3 liver transplants in the entire United States.  To add to it, drinking alcohol increases the risk of cancers of the mouth, esophagus, pharynx, larynx, liver, and breasts too, just to name a few.

• Female deaths thanks to drugs in California are a real problem.  The number of women who lost their lives opioid pain reliever overdoses rose by a staggering no less than 415 percent between the years of 1999 and 2010 in California and across the nation for that matter (compared to only 250 percent for men) according the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  For the numbers on it, in 2010, a total of 6,631 deaths among women involved opioid pain reliever overdose, compared with the 1999 total of 1,287 deaths among women due to opioid pain reliever overdose.  Obviously, women are being put on prescription drugs far more often now than ever before.

• Of those Americans who started using and abusing drugs in the last year, in California more than a quarter began by abusing a prescription medications (26.0 percent, including 17.0 percent with pain relievers, 4.1 percent with tranquilizers, 3.6 percent with stimulants, and 1.3 percent with sedatives).  Alcohol and marijuana accounted for a lot too, and other illicit drugs made up for the rest of it by far.

The Need for Rehab

Now more than ever a solution must present itself in Live Oak.  That solution is inpatient rehabilitation.  With inpatient rehabilitation, effective tools can finally be implemented against the addiction crisis and something can finally be done about substance abuse in this city. This is a deadly and seriously concerning problem to say the least and it has been for some time.  With rehab Live Oaks can make a full recovery.
