Lemon Grove is a well-known and popular city in San Diego County, in the state of California. The population ranked in at exactly 25,320 at the 2010 census as recorded by the United States Census Bureau, up from 24,918 as of the 2000 census. The large monument of a lemon has been its symbol since the year of 1963.  That ten-foot-wide sculpture of a lemon, located at 3361 Main Street, is easily the city’s most recognizable landmark. It lies before a small lemon grove beside the Orange Line Trolley tracks near the local Trolley station and downtown bus stop. Written across the base of this monument are the words “Best Climate On Earth”, for which it has won awards in previous years.

By World War II though, most of the citrus groves had disappeared and suburbanization had begun in this city.  There had been four elections on incorporation from the 1950s to the 1970s; the issue caused heated debate in the town and in the surrounding areas too.  The city was finally incorporated on July 1, 1977, and it then became California’s 414th city too.  Lemon Grove was incorporated as a general-law city; however, it continues to receive law enforcement services, via contract, from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department as well.  All in all, the city has survived quite well in spite of the big changes that it has gone through.  Now, the city is growing as more and more families move away from the big cities and seek a quieter and more peaceful lifestyle in smaller cities like Lemon Grove.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Take Their Toll in Lemon Grove, California

Recent years have seen drug and alcohol abuse issues come up with more and more prevalence all across the nation, but few states have experienced it as severely as California has.  This is a state that has suffered greatly not only from increased trafficking of illegal narcotics into the city from other countries and other states, but also from increased prescription drug abuse and alcohol abuse too.

Lemon Grove is not the only city that has so suffered though.  In fact, the entire nation and all states in it are suffering to one degree or another when it comes to substance abuse.  For some insight into the statistics on this not only as they pertain to Lemon Grove but as they pertain to the nation as a whole:

• The year of 2009 saw for itself one of the highest ever numbers of drug abuse-caused emergency department visits in one year.  In this year, there were nearly five million drug-related emergency department visits across the nation and found in every state.  These visits included reports of drug abuse, adverse reactions to drugs, or other drug-related consequences such as drug abuse caused car accidents or drug induced frenzies that resulted in bodily injury, and others.

• The total and sheer number of individuals in the United States of America who abuse drugs and/or alcohol and then get behind the wheel of a car is quite staggering and pretty upsetting.  According to organization of The National Survey on Drug Use and Health, (NSDUH), it has been estimated that just a little over thirty million individuals all in all over the age of twelve in the United States, (equating to roughly twelve percent of the population over the age of twelve), drove while intoxicated at least once in the year of 2009.

Rehabilitation Sought as a Solution to Drug and Alcohol Addiction

Problem after problem after problem has struck the United States as far back as the city’s inception.  Currently, the country’s biggest problem lies in drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general.  Not only does substance abuse adversely affect the individuals themselves who take part in it, but it also makes the nation’s populace very distressed and focused on this one thing when there are dozens of other issues to also be working on too.

Lemon Grove, though it is a relatively small city, has suffered quite a bit when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general.  This city lies across some of the most significant and pushed drug trafficking lies through this sector of the state, and this has led to high quantities of narcotics being dropped off in this general area and sector.  To combat this, the Drug Enforcement Agency, (DEA), has worked tirelessly to try to catch those responsible for such trafficking crimes.  The effort has been a tough one and a slow one too, to say the least.

Now however, there exists a totally different and absolutely successful way for those addicted to drugs and alcohol to make positive and effective change in and around their communities once and for all.  This method of course lies in those who are addicted going through inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations.  With inpatient rehab, it actually becomes possible to effectively address and rehabilitate all of the negative and undesirable aspects of addiction that are troubling a person, and in this way too Lemon Grove is finally able to move forward and diminish its own personal drug addiction crisis.
