Drug and Alcohol Addiction on the Rise in La Mirada and Across the Nation
Sadly, drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general has been getting worse and worse as the years have gone by and the problem now impacts the nation in a big way and on a large scale. For example:
• Substance abuse and addiction is a problem for every type and demographic of Americans in the nation. This used to be just an issue for grown adults between the ages of 25 and 45 that tended to be in poverty class, lower class, or middle class income levels. Now however there are hundreds of thousands of drug and addicts in every possible age range and there are millions of drug and alcohol addicts in all different income levels too.
• Almost every person has seen or heard about the terrors of drug and alcohol addiction in some way, shape, or form. In fact, substance abuse is now so pervasive in the United States that roughly one out of every eight Americans knows someone who is a substance abuser and approximately one out of every 20 Americans is closely connected through familial ties or personal relations to someone who is a drug or alcohol addict.
• Addiction is now a bigger problem with young adults, teens, adolescents, and the youths of the nation than it ever has been before. This is quite scary because this demographic gets affected the worst by addiction when they are addicted. This means that young adults are far more likely to commit crimes, get killed, and in general get into and cause trouble as a result of substance abuse that older adults are.

There have been a few key points and factors that have exacerbated the situation in La Mirada and the surrounding areas specifically, and these are:
• La Mirada lies directly on some major trafficking lines for drug running from Mexico and up into this quadrant of the United States. Trafficked drugs like heroin, meth, and cocaine make a big difference in the substance abuse crisis in La Mirada as it is these drugs that are by far abused the most often.
• La Mirada also has a big problem when it comes to youth drug and alcohol abuse. For quite some time now the youth population of this area has been seriously affected by growing drug and alcohol abuse issues in this area that have seemed to not relax and instead only get worse.
• La Mirada finally has a pretty intense and severe drug problem with the upper middle class residents of the area. With this demographic it is prescription pills and alcohol that are abused the most by far. This demographic for some time now has been struggling with these two drugs. The tricky aspect of this situation is that these drugs, (prescription pills and alcohol), are both legal so they are hard to police.
