Hercules is a lovely, pleasant, and very welcoming city in western Contra Costa County, in the state of California, in the United States of America. Situated as it is along the coast of San Pablo Bay, it is located in the eastern region of the San Francisco Bay Area, about just a mere ten miles or so north of Berkeley.  Hercules had a 2010 population of 24,060 according to the United States Census Bureau.

As for its history, upon relocating its operations from San Francisco in the year of 1881, the infamous company known as California Powder Works established company housing in the area that is now the city of Hercules. The city was named after the company’s leading product that it made for the military, which in turn was named after the Roman hero, Hercules.

Hercules contributed significantly to the production of weaponized explosives during both World Wars. By the Second World War though, the plant had increased its value and diversified to produce fertilizers too, as well as other chemical products. However, by this time the surrounding area was also experiencing rapid growth as the commuter belt moved further outward from San Francisco and into this area.  The city began to grow from this point onwards, with more and more new families seeking places outside of the big city to settle down.

To add to its unique recognition and fame, in the 1970s Hercules was one of the first cities in the United States to develop a comprehensive Noise Element of the General Plan. This work included the production of noise contour maps for all major highways and arterial roads, as well as a city-wide mitigation plan to boot.  Hercules was finally incorporated in the year 1900.  The first post office was established in 1914, and by the 1940s Hercules had organized its own law enforcement department too.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Create a Heavy Effect on Hercules

Sadly, it is towns and cities like Hercules, and indeed Hercules itself that are now being targeted the most when it comes to the expansion of drug dealing and trafficking in this nation.  With more drug abuse problems occurring in the area, the overall quality of living in Hercules has also gone down as well.  Furthermore, Hercules isn’t even the only city in true area that has been affected either.  Meth and cocaine particularly are making a big impression in this whole sector of the nation.  For example:

• In the United States of America, cocaine continues to become more and more popular in spite of the many advances made in synthetic drugs and in the inceptions of newer and more impressive drugs.  Cocaine is legendary in a very morbid way.  The Drug Abuse Warning Network, (DAWN), reported heavy cocaine abusers coming into hospital emergency departments and emergency rooms.  For example, there were a resounding 448,481 emergency department visits involving cocaine alone reported in the year of 2005, even though there are far more drugs to be abused now than there were when cocaine made a name for itself in the 1960s initially.

• Crystal meth is particularly appeasing and is almost solely directed at the young adult population of the nation, and the addictions to it that result plague the various younger populations of the United States and in a big way too.  To provide some factual data on this, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, (NIDA), found that over one and a half percent of eighth graders, almost two percent of tenth graders, and over three percent of twelfth graders are actually addicted to crystal meth, and will not be able to stop abusing it for a very long time or possibly forever if rehabilitation is not utilized.

What to Do About the Problem: Rehabilitation Sought as a Solution

All of the above is exactly why rehabilitation is now more than ever so totally important and necessary to be utilized in towns like Hercules.  By rehabilitation is meant inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations.  With the help that can be found at centers like these, it actually becomes possible for anyone who is addicted to anything to be able to win the battle and the fight against addiction once and for all.  This is necessary, because no other approach is really going to do the trick like inpatient rehab will.

With inpatient rehab, anyone who is addicted to anything in Hercules can actually get the detoxification they need to win against chemical dependence and become physically clean from drug addiction.  Up next, when detox is completed a Hercules addict can go through actual rehabilitation itself, which is what is going to ultimately take the person and give him or her a new lease on life after finding and eradicating all of the mental, psychological, spiritual, and personal reasons why he or she abuses drugs and alcohol.  All of this means pretty good news for Hercules, and if rehab is applied and applied now then the city stands a good chance of beating and eradicating its drug problem once and for all.
