Healdsburg is a successful city that is located in Sonoma County, in the state of California, in the United States of America. As of the 2010 Census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, the city had a population of 11,254. Healdsburg is a small, very touristic town that has been slowly growing in population and quickly growing in economic revenue. Due to its three most important wine-producing regions (the Russian River, Dry Creek, and Alexander Valley), Healdsburg has been continuously awarded one of the top 10 smallest towns in America.  The city has a special place on the map given how much attention it has gotten from not only the state but also from the entire nation for that matter.  It’s an upper class tourist town, but it is a tourist town still, and the popularity and economic success it has experienced as a result has been good for the locals and the surrounding areas too.

Healdsburg is centered on a beautiful 19th-century plaza that provides an important focal point for tourists and locals alike.  The median income for a household in the city ranks in at about $48,995, and the median income for a family is at $55,386. Males have a median income of $38,977 versus about $32,015 for females. The per capita income for the city came in at $22,245. 9.4% of the population and 6.6% of families are below the poverty line and suffer to a degree because of that. Out of the total population, 10.4% of those under the age of 18 and 6.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line too.  All in all, these are good numbers for any American small town and Healdsburg is quite economically stable.

Small Town America: Small Town Addiction

Drug and alcohol abuse is no new thing in the United States.  Given skyrocketing addiction statistics and the effects that such problems have had on those involved in addiction, it is pretty apparent that this is an issue that has been growing and getting worse and worse as the years have gone by.

Healdsburg is experiencing an addiction micro-crisis of its own.  In fact, most of the small towns in California are.  These issues and these problems have been extensive to say the least and they will probably continue to be that way almost indefinitely unless something is done about it.  The problem in California is that drug and alcohol abuse and addiction has been expanding outwards and into other small towns from bigger cities and metropolitan areas.  Drug dealers and drug traffickers have seen that there is money to be made in middle class to upper class small town California cities.  The result has been grim to say the least, and the effects and occurrences that have come about in Healdsburg are the epitome of that.

How to Address Addiction in Healdsburg

What happens when an upper middle class town or city in California starts experience drug trafficking?  What happens when a vast percentage of young adults in such a city begin to use and abuse such drugs?  Havoc and insanity to say the least, but suicide is also one of the problems that comes about from these issues.

In the year of 2015, the percentages of young adults who had serious thoughts of suicide were higher for past year alcohol users, past month binge and heavy alcohol use drinkers too, plus past year illicit drug users, adults with a past year substance use disorder, (SUD), and young adults with a past year major depressive episode of one kind or another, (MDE). Among young adults in 2015 who had serious thoughts of suicide in the past year, more than half did not receive any mental health services in the past year, and about 1 in 8 perceived a need for mental health care but did not obtain care.  Furthermore, of those individuals, about half of them admitted to having a substance abuse problem and they went on to admit that they did not have such impulses to take their own lives before they began to use and abuse drugs and alcohol.

This is why now more so than ever such addicted and potentially suicidal individuals really do need to seek out inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations.  If this is done and if this is done quickly and efficiently then the whole addiction problem in Healdsburg will go down and times will change for the better, less people will suffer from addiction, and there will be less suicide attempts.

Positive change needs to occur in Healdsburg and every town and city that is affected by addiction for that matter.  If each and every city thusly affected has their crisis addressed and resolved then the issue will become much less dangerous overall. Find a California rehab center today.
