Greenfield is a pleasant, quiet, and aesthetic city in Monterey County, in the state of California, in the United States. Greenfield is known for being located in the beautiful Salinas Valley, just 33 miles southeast of the city of Salinas itself, at an elevation of 289 feet above sea level. The city was the fastest growing in the county during the 2000s time range, with the population being 12,583 in the year of 2000, and then increasing to no less than 16,330 in the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau. Its most well-known public event is the annual Harvest Festival, for which it is best known. Greenfield is a member of the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments too, and the city has a very strong and well managed infrastructure.
The city of Greenfield is centered in what is thought to be one of the most productive agricultural areas in the entire world. For example, no less than a full 80% of the lettuce grown in the United States is grown in the Salinas Valley. The area has often been coined as the “Salad Bowl of the World,” and rightly so too. Well over two billion U.S. dollars’ worth of fruits and vegetables are produced and shipped annually across the U.S. and abroad from this area alone, making it an agricultural capital of the nation, and of the world too.
As a result of the impressive agricultural success of the city, many major vegetable producers are headquartered in the nearby city of Salinas, which is bigger in population and acts as more of a headquarters than Greenfield itself does.
In Greenfield though, local tourism is increasing as more people are attracted to the area, which is also known as the center of, “Steinbeck Country”, because of famed author John Steinbeck. The area is also known too as a premier wine grape growing region due to the rich soil and desirable climate for grape vines. Vineyards, wineries and wine tasting rooms continue to expand throughout the region, which draws even more tourism here.
A New Threat in Greenfield
Sadly, addiction has become a bit of a problem in Greenfield and in the area in general. When Greenfield was put on the map by tourism around 2000 as a pleasant and affordable farm town to live in, the population soared, but so did the interest in nearby Salinas drug dealers and drug traffickers. The effect of this has been that drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse in general in this area has been on the rise and has been creating increasingly serious problems in this area and in others nearby too. If something is not done soon to correct the crisis, then it might never go away, and it will certainly get much worse long before it gets any better.
Handling Addiction Problems in Greenfield
Addiction has really begun to have a very negative and concerning effect on the lives of those who live in Greenfield. From a family standpoint, addiction is now something that is so prevalent here that more than half of the families in this area have a family member or loved one who is addicted to drugs or alcohol.
When it comes to confronting your loved one, you need to let your loved one know that you care about him or her a lot, but that you cannot continue to contribute to their addiction or enable them in any way. Make it clear that you are going to cut them off unless they seek out treatment, such as a rehab center in California. You need to let him or her know that if they desire to change, you will help them find treatment and get them the help they need.
Here are some tips for when your loved one does come around and is ready to seek out treatment:
• Make sure you do your research before choosing an appropriate treatment center for him or her to go to. There are lots of different treatment programs out there, and you want the best of the best for your loved one.
• Consider a long term program. Long-term care for someone with drug or alcohol addiction offers the best chance for sustained sobriety by far. As a general rule, the longer one spends in treatment the better their chances are of staying clean and sober indefinitely. Medical research even states that 90-days, minimum, provides an ideal opportunity for a lifetime of recovery for the person.
• Act fast. You don’t want your loved one to change his or her mind. This happens a lot, and it’s something to watch out for and be careful for.
• Select a treatment program that has both detox and aftercare. In this way, you can really make sure that your loved one will get the full run of help and assistance that he or she needs to stay clean and sober from addiction indefinitely.
• Almost all opiate addicts do not possess the means to financially contribute to a treatment center. Be ready to use health insurance or seek out finical help if necessary.
Ultimately, the goal is to get your loved one into a rehab center as soon as you can and to keep them there until they make a full recovery. By acting fast and following a few, basic principles this is definitely possible, but one does need to be quick about it. This needs to be done, and it needs to be done now if Greenfield is going to be successful and affluent and drug-free.
