Gonzales is a small, quiet, quaint, and relatively sleepy city in Monterey County, in the state of California, in the United States of America. Gonzales is located about 16 miles southeast of the bigger city of Salinas, and Gonzales actually acts as a bedroom community and a commuter town for Salinas.  The population of the city of Gonzales ranked in at 8,187 at the 2010 census, as reported by the United States Census Bureau, up from 7,525 at the previous 2000 census. Gonzales is a member of the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments, and it contributes greatly to decisions made on a Bay Area basis.

Gonzales as a city is middle class right down to the bone.  The median income for a household in the city was $41,582, and the median income for a family was about $41,773. Males had a median income of roughly $31,743 versus only about $27,115 for females. The per capita income for the city ranked in at $12,438. About 15.0% of families and 20.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 26.6% of those under age 18 and 11.5% of those ages 65 or over.  These are all pretty standard averages for a California city or town.

Gonzales is an important wine cultivation area, and that’s where the city gets most of its revenue from. Wineries located in Gonzales include Constellation Brands, Robert Talbott, Pisoni Vineyards, Boekenoogen Winery, and Salinas Valley Vineyards just to name a few of the bigger ones.

This region is quite popular for tourism partially because of the weather.  Gonzales experiences warm (but not hot) and dry, arid summers, with no average monthly temperatures above 71.6 °F actually. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Gonzales has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated “Csb” on climate maps, making it immensely desirable year round as a place to visit. Summer daytime temperatures average around 35 °C (95 °F), but nights are cool year-round, making the overall appeal of the city quite welcoming.

Substance Abuse on the Rise in Gonzales

Drug and alcohol addiction sadly is on the rise in the city of Gonzales.  This is a city that never really used to suffer with substance abuse problems in the past, but now it definitely has been suffering and badly too.  This is an issue and a crisis that has spread out of many different major urban areas in California and out into the smaller, outlying towns and rural small town areas.

Gonzales is simply one of many small towns that has fallen under the trap of addiction now.  In fact, substance abuse has gotten so out of hand in the state of California that California is now thought to be one of the worst of states in the nation when it comes to substance abuse problems.

Addressing the Problem with Inpatient Rehabilitation

Substance abuse is a crisis that Gonzales is now struggling with. Though this city is small and relatively off the beaten path, it has suffered the same fate of so many other California towns in that it has not been able to escape an addiction crisis of its own. This city is a relatively pleasant, affluent, middle-class town, so it is one that would be targeted most intimately by drug dealers and criminals of all different kinds. Ever since the economic crisis of 2008, drug dealers have had a hard time finding new business in big cities so they have expanded their outreach to small towns in rural areas like Gonzales.

The effect of the spread of addiction has been particularly severe in Gonzales because of the simple fact that the city has never had to deal with such a horrendous issue before. The residents of the city literally have zero experience when it comes to substance abuse, and their law force and their method of handling it is pretty outdated on it. Because of this the effects have been a lot worse than they would have been in a bigger city that was more equipped to deal with such issues. This has caused the local citizenry to scramble for a solution.

In times like these, the best way to address the issue is with inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detoxification facilities, rehabilitation programs in CA, and recovery organizations. These are by far the most efficient and the most fantastic in dealing with both rehabilitation of those who are addicted and the prevention of drugs from further getting into the area. This is why fast action needs to be taken in this area to prevent substance abuse from continuing to be such a big problem.

Inpatient rehabilitation is key because it will not only free people from the chemical effects of their addiction in Gonzales but it will also clean them up mentally and personally and spiritually too. This is the most effective, hard-hitting approach that there is today. If this method is applied to everyone who is addicted in Gonzales then the drug problem will cease to exist there. Now more than ever it is important to make this happen and to make it happen fast too.
