Exeter is a pleasant and relatively small city in Tulare County, in the state of California, in the United States. The city is situated in the beautiful San Joaquin Valley near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The population was 10,334 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau. Exeter is quite desirable as it is within a 3 to 4 hour drive of both Los Angeles and San Francisco, and it is only 30 minutes from the entrance to famous Sequoia National Park.
Exeter has a strong economy and a very stable infrastructure for how small of a town it is. Major employers in Exeter include companies like Waterman Industries, Svenhard’s Swedish Bakery and Peninsula Packaging. In addition to that, due to Exeter’s close proximity to the Sequoia National Forrest, Exeter receives a large number of tourists each and every year. Exeter is also a very artistic city too. In fact, the small city is known for its beautiful murals. Professional artists depicting the history of the area have painted these huge murals on exterior walls throughout the downtown area. There are currently 28 murals in this outdoor art gallery. The murals all come together to represent the city’s rich agricultural history. In addition to the murals, Exeter’s downtown district is home to many antique shops along with quaint cafes and family-owned restaurants.
Exeter is a successful town, but it is still a middle class town at best. For example, the median income for a household in the city ranked in at $33,738, and the median income for a family was $37,033. Males had a median income of $32,308 versus $27,371 for females. The per capita income for the city was only about $13,795. About 14.2% of families and 19.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 24.8% of those under age 18 and 12.0% of those ages 65 or over. These numbers are all actually pretty average for a California town of this size.
Fighting a Spreading Drug Problem in Exeter
Drug and alcohol abuse has finally left its mark on Exeter. As is the case with many other states, substance abuse and addiction problems have begun to spread across the nation in ever increasing and ever concerning patterns and trends. Now more than ever these issues warrant nationwide upset and worry as truly the issues and crisis problems seem to only get worse and worse.
Exeter has begun to experience the fate felt by many California small towns. Tired with capped markets in big cities, many of California’s drug criminals have begun to spread their influences out from bigger cities and into untouched small towns. Though small towns are generally better protected than bigger cities are, this has still been concerning for such towns as cities like Exeter have never had to deal with drug and alcohol addiction problems before, at least not on such grand of a scale. Now more than ever, it falls on the shoulders of the residents of Exeter to step up to the plate and really start to do something about the addiction issues in their small town. It doesn’t take many addicts to make a town of ten-thousand people suffer, and Exeter has dozens of addicts within the city limits alone.
Taking Part in Effective Rehabilitation
Substance abuse is a very steady and very common occurrence in Exeter. These issues and these problems have been concerning for some time now. The crisis has occurred because drugs and alcohol have become pretty major problems in nearby big cities in California and they have been for some time too. The crisis and the difficulty that is being experienced here is all because drugs have been spreading outwards from bigger cities and metro areas and outwards into smaller cities and towns.
Substance abuse has been a big problem in California for over two decades, but after the economic crisis of 2008, a large percentage of inner city addicts could no longer afford drugs. When this happened, metro area drug dealers and criminals just started to push their drugs outwards and into smaller towns and rural areas. What this meant unfortunately is that towns and villages and small cities like Exeter that had never really experienced drug abuse or addiction before suddenly had pretty major drug problems on their hands. For cities and towns like Exeter, it is especially a problem with the young adult population of those areas.
How does a town like Exeter address these issues? The best way to go about it is to address the crisis issues and problems with rehabilitation. More specifically, rehabilitation of an inpatient nature needs to be utilized. Only when that is done will these issues begin to relax. What is important here is for all of the addicts in Exeter to go through rehab in CA and to go through rehab now. Only when this is done and the demand for drugs stops in Exeter will these issues and these problems actually cease to be so concerning and so worrisome.
Proper rehabilitation is needed and wanted in Exeter. Once all who are addicted here are freed from addiction the issues can start to fall away. This currently is the main goal in Exeter, and hopefully it will occur soon so the city can go back to being the drug free, pleasant city that it once was.
