About the Infamous City of Diamond Bar, California

Diamond Bar is a lovely and popular city in eastern Los Angeles County, in the state of California, in the United States.  The 2014 population estimate ranked in at 56,784, up from 56,287 at the 2000 census.  This is a city that is actually named after the “diamond over a bar”, branding iron registered in 1918 by ranch owner Frederick E. Lewis.  The city features a public Los Angeles County golf course.  It is also home to the Diamond Bar Country Estates a private guarded community which is highly desired.

Located as it is at the junction of the Pomona and Orange freeways, Diamond Bar is primarily residential with shopping centers interspersed throughout the city too.  It is surrounded by the suburban communities, such as Brea, Walnut, Chino Hills, and Rowland Heights.  According to the 2010 United States Census, Diamond Bar has a median household income at one of the top earning percentiles in the country at $88,422, with 5.9% of the population living below the federal poverty line.  This is a popular city, to say the least and many local Californians aspire to live there.

•    Heavy drinking was reported by more than six percent of the population aged 12 and older, or 12.6 million people.  These 2000 estimates were nearly identical to the 1999 estimates, but the estimates have gone up a lot since then.

•    Males between the ages of 12 to 20 were more likely than their female peers to report binge drinking in the year 2000, (21.3 percent compared to 15.9 percent), but since 2000 both sexes are now a lot more likely to abuse alcohol than they ever were before.  Today, roughly twenty percent of the American population over the age of twelve has abused alcohol at least once in the past month.

•    Young adults from the ages of 18 to 22 who were also enrolled full-time in college were more likely than their peers not enrolled full-time to report any use, binge use, or heavy use of alcohol in the year of 2000.  Past month alcohol use was reported by 62.0 percent of full-time college students which was then compared to 50.8 percent of their counterparts who were not currently enrolled full-time in college.  Binge and heavy use rates for college students were 41.4 percent and 16.4 percent, respectively, compared with 35.9 percent and 12.1 percent, respectively, for other persons aged 18 to 22.  Sadly, abuse is actually more common amongst those enrolled in higher academic institutions than those who are not so enrolled.
