Desert Hot Springs, also known as DHS by the locals, is a city in Riverside County, California in the state of, in the United States of America. The city is located within the Coachella Valley geographic region, sometimes referred to as the Desert Empire as the area is incredibly arid. The population was 25,938 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, up from 16,582 at the more recent 2000 census. The city has undergone rapid development and high population growth since the 1970s when there were only a mere 2,700 residents.

The city of Desert Hot Springs has earned a lot of interest and attraction often simply because of the expanding population of the Desert Empire.  Real Estate is still very affordable in Desert Hot Springs, and this fact has attracted many to the area who want to work in Riverside or other nearby, bigger cities, but who do not want to have to pay the high dollars to work there.

Another thing about Desert Hot Springs that has earned it, even more, fame is, of course, the springs themselves.  Desert Hot Springs is home to a number of various hot mineral water spas. During the 1950s and 1960s, the town had over 80 spa hotels, all in all, often called “spa-tels.” From the late 1990s to the present a number of these boutique hotels have been renovated and revived and reopened.  With their mid-century modern architecture, they appeal to those wanting a unique hotel/spa experience, and the economy and the population of Desert Hot Springs has excelled as a result.  For example, one immensely famous spa hotel property in Desert Hot Springs is the Two Bunch Palms Resort. In 1992 it was used as a filming location for the movie The Player.

Facts and Statistics: Addiction on the Rise in Desert Hot Springs and Across the Nation

There’s no doubt about it, drug and alcohol abuse and addiction is getting more and more common and popular as the years go by, and the issue has gotten particularly bad in this area in the last few years.  Addiction in Desert Hot Springs is especially serious when it comes to crystal meth abuse and youth alcohol abuse.  The problems here are serious and steady to say the least and, if nothing it done about them, they will only get much, much worse indeed.  For example:

• Crystal meth and other types of meth are one of the fastest growing popular drugs in American communities all across the United States of America.  To shed some light on this, the United States government recently reported that there were about thirteen million people over the age of twelve who had used methamphetamine of one kind or another.  The problem with meth is that is creates addiction after just one usage, so it can be estimated that most who have abused it once have also become addicted to it to one degree or another.

• On the subject of young adults abusing alcohol and becoming addicted to it, the point of young adults abusing alcohol because of their upbringing cannot be stressed to the reader enough.  To prove this point and make it even more clear, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, (NIAAA), found that children of families with at least one alcohol addicted parent are four times as likely to develop problems with alcohol than children of sober, non-drinking parents.  If both parents are alcoholics then forget about it, alcohol abuse is almost guaranteed to be an issue when the child grows older.

Rehabilitation Sought as a Solution for Addiction Problems in Desert Hot Springs

Desert Hot Springs is not a big city.  It is not a big name in this state.  It is not a big anything.  But it does have a big drug problem.  For over a decade now Desert Hot Springs has continually struggled with rising addiction and substance abuse issues.  Why this city though?  Why a relatively small and not very impinging town like Desert Hot Springs? Sure Desert Hot Springs is a pretty important and vital commuter city, supporting town, bedroom community, and suburb but it by itself does not seem like the type of city that would attract a significant amount of substance abuse issues.

This has been the problem.  No one would think that Desert Hot Springs and towns like Desert Hot Springs would have big drug problems, but that is exactly why drug dealers, drug pushers, drug traffickers, and drug criminals in general have targeted Desert Hot Springs and cities like it in the last fifteen odd years.  No one would ever think to look for a drug dealer in a small, relatively quiet and peaceful city like Desert Hot Springs for a drug dealers, now would they?  Of course not.

Essentially, though the clientele base is not very big, it is extremely easy and “safe” to sell drugs in Desert Hot Springs and in other cities like Desert Hot Springs.  This is why this town and others like it have attracted such serious and severe drug abuse and trafficking issues.  Addiction is a big problem here now, and it holds a strong percentage of the locals, especially the local teens, in its clutches.  It is feared that, if something is not done soon about these issues, that they will essentially take over and then Desert Hot Springs will be left in a pretty bad condition indeed.

This is where rehabilitation steps in.  By rehabilitation is meant inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations.  With programs like these, it becomes possible to save the life of a Desert Hot Springs drug addict or alcoholic.  Inpatient rehabilitation is the only proven rehabilitation method that can deliver more than a fifty percent success rate, all other forms of rehab coming in at sadly below fifty percent.  With inpatient rehab, the sadness and misery of Desert Hot Springs can finally be turned around and the city can finally get back on its feet.
