Corona Drug

Corona is a well-known and popular city in Riverside County, California, in the United States.  As of the 2010 census done by the United States Census Bureau, the city had a population of 152,374, which was up from 124,966 at the 2000 census.  The cities of Norco and Riverside lie to the northeast, Eastvale to the north, Chino Hills to the northwest, Yorba Linda, and the Cleveland National Forest and the Santa Ana Mountains to the southwest.

The City of Corona is located approximately just 45 miles southeast of Los Angeles in western Riverside County.  The City limits encompass a full 39.2 square miles.  A city whose heritage spans far more than a century, Corona has undoubtedly emerged as an ethnically diverse community, where a significant percentage of the population is made up of young, well-educated families.

The Corona community boasts many amenities that have earned the city recognition and have begun to provide a first-rate quality of life for its residents.  The City has more than 394 acres of parks, with sports fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, tennis courts, two skateparks and an outdoor pool that provide entertainment and enjoyment daily to the city’s residents.  The Corona Public Library and the Fender Museum of Music and the Arts provide cultural and educational programming, and the Senior Center is a hub of activity with programs, workshops, and social gatherings. The City also operates a recreational airport too.

Corona has an impressive economy.  The city’s industrial base has played an important role in the growth of the City and its employee base too. Corona’s economy is strong and getting stronger even stronger as the years go by.  There are more than 42,000 jobs within the city of Corona and there is a workforce of more than 84,000.  The retail and commercial areas are expanding and office development is booming too.  Corona has more than 34 million square feet of industrial space and more than 3 million square feet of office space existing, under construction, or at least are planned.

Drug Addiction and Substance Abuse at All Time Highs in Corona, California

Unfortunately, this is a city that has also begun to experience pretty significant and severe drug addiction issues that were not there before.  The city has in fact never had a major drug or alcohol abuse problem until very recently.  No doubt attracted by the impressive economy, the wealth, the prosperity, and the growth, drug dealers and traffickers have flocked to Corona in the last several years following the recession of 2008.  The result has been quite miserable, and if something isn’t done soon about it then the city will be on the verge of experiencing an addiction crisis and epidemic.

Facts and Statics, What is Really Occurring in Corona and Across California

To highlight and examine the exact and very specific issues as they are occurring in force in Corona, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, (SAMHSA), the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, (NSDUH), the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, (NIAAA), the National Institute on Drug Abuse, (NIDA), and other organizations and affiliates and groups all worked together and essentially teamed up to try and understand and study and map out this situation as best as was possible.  In doing so, it was discovered that the situation was indeed pretty serious and that something needed to be done about it.

Listed below are just some of the various facts and statistics that basically apply to Palmdale and the state of California in general, included herein to provide the reader with some of the real world data as to how serious this situation really is, and what will happen if it doesn’t get better:

• Nearly 37 percent of all Heroin users in the state of California are between the ages of 36 and 45.

• 70 percent of all persons and residents in the state of California who abuse alcohol are male while 69 percent of all the individuals who abuse alcohol also abuse a secondary illicit drug as well and along with it, (like Marijuana, Heroin, Cocaine, Meth, etc.).

• As recently as the year 2005, there were 880,000 individuals in the state with significant drug abuse and addiction problems and needed the professional help of a California drug rehabilitation center.  Unfortunately, only about a mere 31,000 or 3.5 percent of them entered an addiction treatment and recovery program to get the help that they so desperately needed.

• The number of drug overdose deaths, (a majority of which are from prescription drugs), in California increased by 31 percent since 1999 when the rate was 8.1 per 100,000.
