Corning is a pleasant and comfortable city in Tehama County, in the state of California, in the United States of America.  The city is located about 19 miles south of Red Bluff and about 500 miles north of the city of Los Angeles. The population was 7,663 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau, up from about 6,741 at the prior 2000 census.  For such a small town, a growth of almost a thousand people is quite significant, especially in just a few years too.

Corning is relatively typical, California middle-class city.  The city has strength in industry and most of the residents are middle class.  Corning is home to well-recognized Bell-Carter Foods, Inc., the second-largest table olive processor in the world and the largest in the entire United States.

Bell Carter produces delicious Lindsay Olives. In addition to table olives actually, Corning also has a significant agricultural industry that is based on olive oil, dried plums (prunes) including the Sunsweet label, walnuts, and almonds too. Lucero Olive Oil, North American’s most award winning extra virgin olive oil company, is based in this town.  This city is known for being the olive capital of the nation by far too actually, and just that fact alone has begun to build up tourism interest in this city.

Based in Corning one will also find orchards, an olive mill, and a public Tasting Room. The Olive Pit is another pleasant local landmark that specializes in many varieties of table olives and is a popular tourist stop for visitors with a quaint wine bar and cafe. Other destinations include places like the House of Brews, a music-based coffee shop, the historic Rodgers Theater, and the Corning Museum just to name a few. Rolling Hills Casino, Equestrian Center, and Sevillano Links Golf Course, a championship 18-hole golf course, is about one mile south of town which all also attract tourists every year.

Drug and Alcohol Addiction Strikes in Corning

According to SAMHSA’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 22.5 million people (8.5 percent of the U.S. population) aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol use problem in 2014. Only 4.2 million (18.5 percent of those who needed treatment) received any substance use treatment in the same year. Of these, about 2.6 million people received treatment at specialty treatment programs (CBHSQ, 2015).  Drug and alcohol abuse and addiction is a growing problem in the nation today, and not much is being done to really hammer it back like it should be.  The grim truth of this is that substance abuse just seems to carry on and on in spite of people’s best efforts to stop it.

Not even a small town like Corning can escape addiction.  Even this small city has fallen under the influence of substance abuse issues in recent years.

Utilizing Rehabilitation

Drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse, in general, is a major problem in Corning and has been for some time now.  This is a city and a general area that has seemingly struggled with addiction and drug abuse problems that are far greater than a city this size should have to struggle with for years now.  A lot of people are very surprised by this, as this city is a pretty small city by comparison to other towns that do have drug problems.

Substance abuse is a crisis, to say the least, and the key here is that drug dealers and criminals have been pushing this crisis out from the bigger cities in California and into small towns like Corning for many, many years now without being stopped or really held up in any way at all.  As sad as this is, it most definitely is the truth of the matter and it has been for some time now.  Time and time again, drug abuse and addiction have just worsened over and over again in a middle-class city with no real reason of why that should be occurring.  Well, the truth is that drug dealers had their eyes on Corning as an easy city to strike, and they unfolded their plans to do so in the last few years.

Inpatient or residential treatment can also be very effective, especially for those with more severe problems (including co-occurring disorders). Licensed residential treatment facilities offer 24-hour structured and intensive care, including safe housing and medical attention. Residential treatment facilities may use a variety of therapeutic approaches, and they are generally aimed at helping the patient live a drug-free, crime-free lifestyle after treatment.

In times like these, when times are tough for Corning, the key needs to be to send those who are addicted to drugs into and through inpatient, residential drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox frailties, rehab programs, and recovery organizations.  With the help of inpatient rehab, this is actually a problem and a concern that can be properly addressed and gotten rid of rather quickly.  It does not take long to tackle an addiction problem, and once it is tackled and removed properly, it really does get removed properly.  When there are no addicts left in an area, the desire and the impulse to use and abuse drugs in that area falls by the wayside.  This is exactly what needs to occur now more than ever in Corning.
