Clovis, California: The City in Review, in Summary, and Highlighted

Clovis is a critical and well-known city in Fresno County, California, in the United States.  The 2014 population was estimated to be 102,189 as reported by the United States Census Bureau.  Clovis is conveniently located just 6.5 miles northeast of downtown Fresno, at an elevation of 361 feet all in all.  Over the years, Clovis city officials have done their best to go to great lengths to build a city to serve a variety of residents and individuals and visitors alike.  The efforts have paid off in a big way.  Particularly since the turn of the century, people from all walks of life have made Clovis their home.

Not too many years back and relatively recently in Clovis’s long history, the city of Clovis was primarily known as a community for young families.  That actually remains true today.  Many young couples eager to set down roots still select their first home in Clovis without a second thought.  Nowadays though Clovis is also home to families with older children as well as families experiencing the empty-nest syndrome too.  Seniors and young, single adults find their niche here, too.  A wide selection of mobile home parks and apartment complexes offer a variety of housing options for all income levels, which makes Clovis a lot more accessible than many other types of cities in California.

In all housing selections really, there are a lot of varieties in price ranges too.  Without a doubt, working-class families to seniors on fixed incomes to professional, double-income families settle down in Clovis simply because the town is not only very pleasant but it is also relatively inexpensive.  There are choices in lot sizes, ranging from large acreage, larger estate lots, to conventional single-family parcels and townhouses and condominiums as well.

As a result of these plus points, the city of Clovis has earned recognition for multiple different aspects of the city.  For example, in a ranking that scored California cities in five categories which included school ratings, home values, home ownership costs, household income, and income growth, the City of Clovis was ranked No. 1 in California to Raise a Family by leading money blog NerdWallet.com.  The City of Clovis has also been proclaimed a Healthy Eating Active Living, (HEAL), city.  The Healthy Eating Active Living Cities Campaign provides a significant amount of training and technical assistance to help city officials adopt policies that improve their communities’ physical activity and retail food environments alike.

Drug Addiction and Substance Abuse Strikes Hard in the Once Pleasant City of Clovis

Sadly, drug addiction and substance abuse have become a major issue in the once peaceful and relatively addiction free city of Clovis.  Today, lots of different types of drugs have managed to filter their way into the city through multiple different ways and means.  Without a doubt, this has been a serious issue and it will continue to be so until it is resolved and eradicated fully and completely.  The problem that Clovis has faced is that since the economic crisis of 2008 and 2009 the drug dealing and traffic issue has begun to shift to target more middle-class Americans and less lower class Americans who could no longer afford drugs thanks to the recession.  This is exactly what occurred in Clovis.

The city had little to nothing to do with drug addiction and substance abuse until very recently.  In fact, addiction used to be scarcely heard of in Clovis.  Unfortunately, now it is much more common and much more regularly heard of.  If something isn’t done soon to address it, the issue may very well spiral out of control with its addiction crisis.
Facts and Statistics: Real Data on a Real Addiction Crisis

To gain a better understanding on just how serious of an issue drug addiction and substance abuse really is, some facts and statistics have been included below so as to provide the reader with some context:

• The number and percentage of past month methamphetamine users in the year 2013, (595,000 or 0.2 percent all in all), were similar to those in the year 2012, (440,000 or 0.2 percent total), and in 2011 as well, (439,000 or 0.2 percent), but they were higher than the estimates in the year 2010, (353,000 or 0.1 percent).  This drug also is a lot more popular now than it was in the 90s or the early 2000s, with three to four times the number of individuals abusing meth in the U.S. than were abusing it twenty years ago.

• Among youths in the United States of the age range of 12 to 17, the rate of current illicit drug use was much lower in the year 2013, (only 8.8 percent), than in the time period between 2002 to 2007, (ranging from 9.6 to 11.6 percent), and in the time period between 2009 to 2012 (ranging from 9.5 to 10.1 percent).  However, in 2014 and in 2015 youth drug abuse has been on the rise once again.

Rehabilitation: The True Answer to the Addiction Crisis in Clovis, California

Thankfully, there does exist a very simple and very cut and dried way of winning the battle against addiction once and for all.  This effort lies in the individual taking a course through an inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment center, rehab program, detox facility, and recovery organization.  Inpatient rehab centers have been the key to vanquishing addiction since the early 1900s.  Without a doubt, it is these centers that offer the most comprehensive programs and services by far.  In fact, if it weren’t for these centers then addiction would be a sweeping plague across the nation that would currently be affecting three to four times as many Americans as it is currently affecting now.

Thankfully, for the residents of Clovis who are addicted rehab lies within reach.  Anyone who is addicted to anything, no matter how seriously, can go free from that addiction with rehab, and this is what will save Clovis.
