A Little About the City of Camarillo
Camarillo is a lovely and well-known city in Ventura County in the U.S. state of California. The population there was 65,201 at the 2010 census, up from 57,084 at the 2000 census report. The Ventura Freeway is the city’s primary thoroughfare and allows for speedy travel around the area. Camarillo is actually named for Adolfo and Juan Camarillo, two of the few Californios, (pre-1848 California natives of Hispanic ancestry), to preserve the city’s heritage after the arrival of Anglo settlers. The railroad coast route there came through in 1898 and built a station here, legitimately booming the area like never before.
Drug Addiction on the Rise in a Once Peaceful Town
The addiction crisis in the nation has not gone unnoticed in Camarillo. In fact, this area has been affected even more severely than in other cities. The issue has gotten particularly severe amongst the youth of this area which gives grim prospects for the future. For example, though it does not pertain to Camarillo specifically, these facts still apply:
• According to science and biology, the adolescent brain is not fully developed until ages 22-24 and can be therefore, of course, be a lot, a lot more vulnerable to the effects of drugs and alcohol. To add to that simple fact, the part of the brain to develop last is the prefrontal cortex, responsible for decision making and moderating social behavior. This also happens to a lot to young adults sadly, and something must be done soon.
• The properly done, effective treatment for adolescent drug and alcohol problems has been shown to be different than treatment for adults. (National Institute on Drug Abuse). This is because young adults require so much more time, more counseling, more dedication, more therapy, and a whole heck of a lot more support and moral fiber than the addict one himself or herself can mister up himself or herself.
