Bell. An interesting name for an interesting city. Initially incorporated as a city in the infamous Los Angeles County, California in 1927, Bell has flourished and prospered since then. The city rests near the center of the former San Antonio Township, (abolished after 1960), and the city still carries forward some of the history of that era. Its population was 35,477 at the 2010 census as reported by the United States Census Bureau. Bell is perfectly located on the west bank of the Los Angeles River and is a suburb and unique bedroom community of the city of Los Angeles itself. At only a mere 2.5 square miles, Bell is the thirteenth smallest city in the United States with a population of at least 25,000. This city has become quite packed with more and more locals looking for a perfect place to live that’s a commuting distance from LA, and Bell is easily one of the most desirable by far.
For an interesting note on the city itself, in the year of 2007, the U.S. Census Bureau ranked Bell’s land area at 1245 out of 1257 cities all together, (defined as incorporated areas), and two unincorporated areas that had a population of at least 25,000 in year 2000. This means that this is one of the smallest cities in the nation to still have a mid-sized population.
Life was good in Bell until recently. Now the city has taken turn for the worse. Bell is in a major financial crisis due in part to public embezzlement scandals of one kind or another. Due to the criminal actions of the former city’s manager, (Robert Rizzo), and the council in squandering the taxes of their constituents for their own benefit, there is a major, major deficit of several million dollars in the general fund that should be and needs to be available for important city matters. An audit by the Los Angeles County auditor-controller concluded that the city must significantly downsize its budget, including the possibility of disbanding its police department and contracting with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department instead, among other plans and solutions.
To Make Matters Even Worse…
As if current life in Bell wasn’t hard enough, life has been made even more tricky by the simple matter of more and more of the local residents developing addictions to drugs and alcohol. This is cruel and merciless suffering to say the least. Whenever a town or city falls on hard times then addiction is almost always what comes up as a result of it. Addiction and the whole matter of substance abuse is something that just seems to follow wherever economic crisis and hard times seem to go. This has been exactly the case in Bell, and it has been this way ever since the economic crisis issues that the city faced. Now, substance abuse and addiction runs almost rampant here.
Rehabilitation: The Only Way but a Sure Way to Beat Addiction
Life does not have to be so hard in Bell though. Just as there is with any other human difficulty, there are definitely ways to address it and resolve it effectively. These ways are through inpatient, residential, drug and alcohol addiction and dependence treatment centers, detox facilities, rehab programs, and recovery organizations. These are the true and ultimate key to winning against addiction for good, and this is exactly what those hooked on substances in Bell really need.
For example, Bell addicts have really been suffering with a crisis that includes but is not limited to youth addiction. Youth addiction is almost always far worse than adult addiction because youths are much higher than older adults to hurt themselves or to die from their abuses than older adults are. This is why care must be taken when this issue is addressed.
To really resolve it, those addicted will have to go through a rehab program of one kind or another. This is very possible and quite easy to arrange, and tens of thousands of American go through addiction ever year. Tens of millions are addicted though, so this creates a necessity to really explore and handle these issues once and for all. With rehab, addiction is Bell can finally become a thing of the past.
It is highly encouraged that those who are hooked on drugs and alcohol make a point to go to such centers before it is too late. Now is the time to rise up and take lives back from the brink of destruction. For many, addiction is a death sentence, but it doesn’t have to be. With the proper help and rehabilitation, those who are afflicted can fight against and win against addiction once and for all and for good.
